This backflow of acid irritates the lining of the esophagus. Common signs and symptoms of GERD include the burning sensation in the chest (heartburn), sour eructation, food regurgitation, the sensation of a lump in the throat, upper abdominal/chest pain, trouble in swallowing, dry irritating cough, irritation of throat/throat pain, and vomiting, among others.

Risk factors for GERD issues include obesity/overweight, pregnancy, smoking, and the use of certain medications. 

Case Study

A 47-year-old gentleman (PIN: 47309) approached Life Force, Aundh Branch on 2nd February 2022 for the treatment of his complaint of GERD which he was suffering from since 2014. His main presenting symptoms were frequent indigestion, acid reflux, and belching.  He experienced a bloating sensation and always felt heavy after a few mouthfuls.

The main distressing symptom was constant nausea. He also used to suffer from the discomfort of vomiting once a week during which he often vomited out bile. The patient was also suffering from constipation; often he got constipated 1-2 times a week. His other main concern was he was not putting on weight. He was taking antacids daily to get relief from gastric symptoms.

His history of ailments was also asked. His family’s medical history was also asked in detail. 
A detailed case history was taken considering both his mental and physical symptoms. 
 

Physical Generals

He was a nonvegetarian and had a reduced appetite. He had an average thirst and drank about 2-3 liters of water daily. His bowel movements were not satisfactory, and, often, he got constipated 1-2 times a week. He had no urinary complaints. He couldn’t bear the extreme climate and had average sweating. He enjoyed a sound sleep and he preferred sleeping on his back. 

Psychological Generals

His mental symptoms were also asked about in detail. The patient had a very happy childhood with a supportive family. He got married at the age of 25 years and had a satisfactory marital relationship. He was a very mild, gentle, and polite person but was quite anxious about his health condition. 

He told that, at times, he would turn quite irritative, particularly when things won’t happen according to his will.  He also had an apprehension that something bad will happen to him. His intellectual sphere was also considered. His memory, perception, intelligence, logic, and analysis all were good. 

Dr. Shah went through the entire case history in detail, analyzed it, and prescribed medicines to the patient. Also, the patient was given a diet chart and links, and videos related to his disease condition. 

Follow-Ups

At the first follow-up on 30th March 2022, the patient was overall better by 20%. His symptoms of acidity and regurgitation of food had reduced, but he was still experiencing the nausea sensation and, sometimes, vomiting of bile which would leave a bitter taste in the mouth.

At the follow-up on 25th May 2022, the patient was better by almost 50%. His relief from nausea was better, his appetite had improved and he could eat things that earlier used to cause him discomfort. 

By 14th July 2022, the patient was around 70% better in his relief from the complaints. His need for antacids had reduced which was a big relief to him.

By 21st November 2022, the patient was almost 90% to 95% better in his recovery from the complaints. He rarely took antacids. Also, his weight had improved as he was better with his gastric healing. The patient was very happy and thankful to Dr. Shah and the entire Life Force Team for the wonderful results that he experienced. 

Conclusion 

This case illustrates that homeopathy is a very safe and effective treatment for GERD condition. Homeopathy works by addressing the root cause and, thus, gives a permanent solution to the patient without any side effects.
