Successful Long Term Management of Psoriasis with Homeopathy

A male patient from Juhu (Patient ID: 39840) came on 8th April 2019 with complaints of psoriasis on the back, chest, legs, and scalp. The patient had been suffering for one and a half years with these complaints, which were severe and progressive in nature. The chief complaints of the patient included itching all over the eruptions, bleeding that got aggravated after scratching, scaling of patches, and a burning sensation. The patient had already been on conventional medication for the last 5 months, taking Tab. Methotrexate 5mg twice a week, along with a multivitamin tablet and levocetirizine daily. He had also been applying the ointment Elocon (mometasone furoate).

Past History – The patient had renal calculi two years ago.

Physical Generals – The patient took average meals, craved non-vegetarian food and sweets, but had an aversion to vegetables. He had been habituated to cigarettes – 10/day – with an average thirst of 2 litres/day. His sleep had been disturbed due to itching, and he had perspiration on the palms. He had no symptoms related to bowel movements and micturition. Thermally, he was chilly.

Mental Symptoms – The patient was mild, gentle, sober, and shy, but at times got irritated. He had grief about his financial issues. He had been financially unstable and had been suffering from money crises for the last 15 years. The patient always thought that he wanted to support his family members.

Personal Details – The patient had been working in BMM as an Assistant Director in Amol Gupte Production House. His father had been working as a construction worker on a site, his mother was a housewife, and he had two brothers, one of 18 years and the other of 17 years.

Based on the details given by the patient and the complaints present, Dr. Rajesh Shah prescribed the medicines based on totality.

Follow-Ups

  • The first follow-up was taken on 27th May 2019, where the patient was 15% better in all his complaints. Itching was reduced, and no new eruptions were present.
  • The second follow-up was done on 15th July 2019, where the patient was 70% better. All complaints were significantly reduced, itching was better, scaling improved, and eruptions were getting better.
  • The third follow-up was taken on 21st August 2019, when the patient’s symptoms were triggered, and scaling was slightly increased. The reason might have been the change in environmental factors.

After consecutive follow-ups, on 16th June 2020, eruptions had become stable, and the patient was much better than before. The patient stayed stable for months.

The patient stopped the treatment for a few months as he was stable, but restarted the treatment in October 2021 due to a relapse during the winter season. He had complaints of a few new eruptions over the scalp, back, and chest, along with some hyperpigmented patches.

Later, during the follow-up on 19th June 2022, the patient was 50% better in all his complaints.

After frequent follow-ups, the patient was better by 65-70%. The eruptions were stable, dryness and scaling were much better, and only itching was present occasionally due to environmental changes.

The patient eventually stopped the treatment as he was stable with his complaints.

Thus, this showed that relapse of psoriasis could be controlled, giving the patient significant improvement. Homoeopathy also worked effectively by taking all physical, general, and mental symptoms into consideration.
