Recurrent flare- ups of chronic lichen planus successfully treated with homeopathyy
A 59-year-old male patient named V.K. (Patient ID: 9897) visited Life Force on 8th October 2022. He presented with complaints of hyperpigmented macular and papular lesions (2–3 mm to 1 cm) of lichen planus on his hands, legs, abdomen, and back, which had been present for 6 months. Occasionally, mild itching was noted. He wasn’t taking any conventional treatment for this.
Associated complaints: Apart from this, there were no other complaints present.
Physical generals: The patient''s diet was mainly vegetarian. He was thermally hot. He had cravings for sweets.
Family history: No positive family history of lichen planus was present.
Personal history: He was working in the IT field. He was originally from Bihar but was living in Bangalore with his family for work. He had two daughters—one was pursuing MBBS, and the other was a law student.
Mental generals: The patient was highly ambitious. He had a workaholic nature. He was a very responsible person and was also anxious and worried about his disease.
At Life Force:
After a thorough case evaluation, Dr. Rajesh Shah decided on a comprehensive treatment plan. He was advised on necessary dietary modifications and given supplements to support his health. He was also advised to do a few blood investigations to check the status of his general health. After analysis, he was prescribed two months of homeopathic medicines initially.
Follow-ups:
In the first follow-up, which was taken on 1st January 2023, some new lesions appeared on the back, legs, and chest. There was moderate itching present occasionally. After careful analysis, Dr. Shah prescribed homeopathic medicines for another two months.
In the second follow-up, which was taken on 9th March 2023, the patient mentioned that there were new eruptions on the chest, abdomen, and hands. As the job had changed, there was stress involved. He was advised to manage stress and practice meditation. After analyzing the feedback from the patient, he was prescribed another two months of homeopathic medicines.
In the next follow-up, which was taken on 7th November 2023, the patient mentioned that his condition was stable and no new lesions were noted. Also, there was no itching or irritation present. After careful consideration, Dr. Rajesh Shah prescribed homeopathic medicines for the next two months.
In the follow-up, which was taken on 4th January 2024, the patient mentioned that all lesions were reduced by 30–40 percent, and the hyperpigmentation of the lesions was also reduced. On the basis of this follow-up, Dr. Shah prescribed him medicines for another two months.
On the 22nd of June 2024, the patient gave feedback that there were no active lesions present. Hyperpigmentation had also reduced, and there was no itching or irritation present in the lesions. Based on this feedback, Dr. Shah prescribed him medicines for the next two months.
In the last follow-up, which was taken on 22nd June 2024, the patient mentioned that there was complete recovery and no active lesions had appeared in the last six months.
Conclusion:
This case illustrates that there can be substantial improvement with homeopathic treatment if taken regularly in cases of lichen planus. Throughout treatment, there was a marked reduction in the itching and size of the lesions, and importantly, the recurrence was prevented.
