Management of seasonal chronic bronchitis in middle aged female
A 52-year-old female patient, Mrs. M.D. (Patient ID: 47252), was introduced to Life Force Homoeopathy by one of the patients whom we were treating. The patient visited the clinic on 24th January 2022 for the treatment of bronchitis. The patient had been suffering from bronchitis for 6 years. Every year in December and January, the patient used to suffer. The disease was gradually progressing. The patient was having complaints like a barking cough, frothy sputum, and a sore throat, which used to last for 15-20 days, and she used to take cough syrups and antibiotics for her complaints.
Associated complaint: The patient also had a gall bladder polyp and acidity since 2002, and renal calculi were diagnosed in 2016, which were asymptomatic. The patient is also suffering from infertility.
Personal history:
The patient is obese, with normal appetite and bowel habits. She has a vegetarian as well as a non-vegetarian diet. She craves sweets, especially chocolates, and has an aversion to vegetables. Her water intake is less. Perspiration is mainly seen on palms and soles during winter. She is sensitive to cold weather. She has a regular menstrual cycle of 23 days and suffers from dysmenorrhea. Sleep is sound.
The patient’s childhood and adulthood were happy; there was little stress in her youth. Now she is doing a marketing and research job. Her husband is a chartered accountant. She has no kids due to infertility and has tried for IVF twice but failed. Her father was strict.
Family history:
The patient’s maternal family had a strong history of asthma; her grandfather, aunt, and 2 cousins were suffering from asthma. Her father had eczema, and her mother was suffering from hypertension.
Past History:
She had undergone surgery, tonsillectomy, and appendectomy in the past.
Mental generals:
The patient is intelligent, irritable, and short-tempered and does not like being dictated to. She does not plan for the future in advance but believes in going with the flow.
Life Force Homeopathy:
After studying the case in detail, Dr. Shah prescribed research-based homeopathic medicines along with dietary advice to the patient.
Follow-ups -
In her first follow-up on 15th February 2022, the patient was much better, up to 80%. There was no major episode; the patient had mild throat irritation and a cough due to outside food (spicy food), but recovered soon.
On 7th June 2022, the patient was much better in the last 4 months but had 1 episode of cold, cough, and breathlessness in May due to the change of weather. She took conventional medicine and was better.
On 17th August 2022, it was observed that the frequency and severity of episodes were reduced; the patient only had mild throat irritation after having cold drinks, but it subsided within a day without any medication.
On 20th October 2022, it was observed that there was frequent traveling of the patient from Mumbai to Goa, because of which there was an episode of cold and throat irritation once, but after taking allopathic treatment, it cleared. Overall, she didn’t have any major episodes of bronchitis.
On 28th December 2022, there was a slight aggravation noticed due to cold weather; the patient was suffering from throat pain, cough, and difficulty in swallowing. It lasted for 10 days. The patient took allopathic medication and was better.
On 3rd February 2023, the patient was much better, was able to eat cold things and drink cold drinks without any complaint, and had 1 episode of cold and cough last month, which was better with allopathic treatment.
On 25th July 2023, the patient was much better, with no major episodes within the last 4-5 months. Mild throat irritation was present due to travel.
In the follow-up on 11th January 2024, it was observed that there were no complaints during the winter season.
On 11th June 2024, she had 1 episode of cough and throat irritation due to the smell of paint, but recovered after taking cough syrup.
On the last follow-up on 29th October, the patient was overall better without any complaints within the past 4 months, and drug dependency was nil.
Conclusion:
This case highlights the successful management of chronic, seasonal bronchitis in a 52-year-old female through individualized homeopathic treatment. Over a period of consistent follow-ups, the patient demonstrated a significant reduction in the frequency, intensity, and duration of bronchitis episodes. Notably, her dependency on conventional medications such as antibiotics and cough syrups was minimized, and she maintained stable respiratory health even during her previously vulnerable winter months.
