Longstanding Lichen Planus of IT Professional Managed with Homeopathy
A 40-year-old male patient, Mr. MKA (Patient ID: 49098), visited Life Force’s Malleswaram clinic on 30 August 2022 with complaints of lichen planus. He had been suffering from the condition for the past year. The reported symptoms included white, lacy lesions on the buccal mucosa, which were spreading slowly. In addition, the patient experienced mild irritation, burning, and hyperpigmentation on his forehead. He had been on Kenacort steroid treatment.
There was a strong family history of lichen planus, as both his mother and younger brother suffered from the same condition.
Physical Generals:
The patient follows a mixed diet and often craves chicken. His appetite is average, and he has no addictions. His sleep pattern and bowel movements are satisfactory.
Family History and Background:
The patient is married and works in the IT profession. He lives with his parents and wife.
Mental Generals:
On observation, the patient appeared mild, confident, and polite in speech. He mentioned that he never expresses his anger.
After reviewing his detailed case history, Dr. Shah prescribed the constitutional medicine Carboneum Sulphuricum.
Follow-ups:
27.10.22: New lesions were observed on the right inner mucosa and the bottom of the tongue. Pain, burning, and soreness were reduced.
16.12.22: The patient was slightly better, with no new lesions. Pain and burning had improved, although there was a flare-up two weeks ago.
17.02.23: The patient was overall better, with no new lesions. He experienced difficulty in eating, and burning pain occurred with spices, warmth, or heat.
19.04.23: No new lesions were noted, but slight redness and a white lesion were observed on the right gum. Occasional flare-ups occurred once every two months.
16.06.23: Much better; oral lesions had subsided, and burning had reduced. The condition was stable.
04.08.23: Stable and much better, with oral lesions subsided. Burning had improved. A new spot appeared on the skin, and the patient had stopped his steroid treatment.
11.10.23: Further improvement was observed, with no oral lesions. Burning and irritation were reduced. A new spot on the skin near the head was noted, with no new medications.
06.12.23: Significant improvement (75%) was noted. Oral lesions were stable, burning and irritation had reduced, skin lesions had diminished, and no new lesions appeared.
02.02.24: The patient was feeling better, with oral lesions improved and burning and irritation decreased. Skin lesions had also improved.
07.04.24: The condition remained stable, with no new lesions. Burning and irritation were further reduced, and skin lesions continued to improve.
01.06.24: Overall, the patient was better, with slight burning in the oral cavity.
03.08.24: The patient was overall better, with no new lesions. Burning had improved, and the patient was not on any medication. The hyperpigmentation spots on the skin also were reduced. The overall improvement was 90%.
Conclusion:
The patient has demonstrated a consistent and positive response to treatment, with notable improvement in both oral and skin lesions. The burning and irritation have significantly reduced over time, indicating a favorable reaction to the homeopathic remedies. The absence of new lesions and the reduction in flare-ups suggest that the treatment has successfully addressed the root cause of the condition.
