Homeopathy for Soothing Painful Piles
On July 27, 2024, Mr. U.D. (patient ID: 54975), a middle-aged man from Bangalore who is 50 years old, came to the Malleswaram branch to get his piles treated. For the past ten years, he has been troubled with the discomfort of piles. He used to get episodes of bleeding, which was followed by burning around the anus. The surgeon advised him to operate on it after diagnosing third-degree piles at the three o''clock position. The patient''s problems continued even after the doctor gave him some laxatives. After a long drive and after passing a stool, his problems used to get worse.
Hemorrhoids, also known as piles, are swollen veins in the lower part of the rectum or anus. They could be internal (inside the rectum) or external (under the skin around the anus). Hemorrhoids are common and could cause discomfort, pain, itching, and bleeding, especially during bowel movements.
He was trying to manage his complaints with some home remedies, but over a period he was not able to manage it.
Physical Generals:
He was a non-vegetarian who loved fish and spicy things. Thermally he was ambithermal. He drank alcohol occasionally, had diminished thirst, and had an unsatisfied stool.
Family background:
He was a retired bank employee. His wife was also retired, survived by a son who is an engineer.
Mental Generals:
He is a straightforward person, clever and a bit arrogant. He gets angry very easily. He is loquacious by nature.
Dr. Shah studied his case in detail and prescribed him Sulphur 0/1 for his piles.
Follow-ups:
He was called for his first follow-up on 10th September. He felt an overall 75% improvement in his condition. The pain and itching at the anus had reduced significantly. The weakness due to the pain had also reduced significantly.
He called on Nov 20th for a 2nd follow-up, wherein he mentioned he was 90% better, with no pain, no bleeding per rectum, and no itching, but occasionally experienced some discomfort.
In addition to homeopathic treatment, Mr. U.D. was advised to make supportive dietary and lifestyle changes to prevent recurrence. A high-fiber diet including plenty of fruits, leafy greens, whole grains, and adequate water intake was recommended to ensure smooth bowel movements and reduce straining. He was also encouraged to avoid spicy and fried foods, limit alcohol, and maintain regular eating habits. Gentle physical activity like walking for 30 minutes a day and avoiding prolonged sitting, especially on hard surfaces, helps to reduce pressure on the rectal veins and supports healing.
Conclusion:
Homeopathy offered a more natural, individualized approach to the treatment of his piles (hemorrhoids). Homeopathic remedies were chosen based on a person’s specific symptoms, overall health, and constitution. The goal was to address the underlying causes, as well as the discomfort associated with hemorrhoids, such as pain, swelling, and bleeding. External piles can be effectively treated with a well-selected homeopathic remedy that offers good results in a short duration of time.
