From Spinning to Stability A Case Study of Vertigo Recovery
A 26-year-old female (Patient ID: 55688) registered at Life Force Homeopathy Clinic, Pimpri-Pune, in September 2024 with complaints of vertigo since March 2020. The symptoms were reported to have started after receiving the Covishield vaccine in February 2022.
She presented with a spinning sensation in the head, especially while lying down on the bed. The vertigo was accompanied by aural fullness, bilateral ear ringing (tinnitus), and neck stiffness. Attempting to sit up from a lying position would often trigger a loss of balance. During severe episodes, the patient experienced abnormal rapid eye movements (nystagmus) in all directions, along with episodes of vomiting following the vertigo attacks.
The patient was diagnosed with Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). Each episode typically lasted for 30 to 45 minutes and would subside only after sufficient rest. The vertigo episodes commonly began after 5 PM and occurred 1–2 times daily, especially following an afternoon nap and during the evening hours until bedtime. The attacks were marked by a sensation of giddiness and imbalance.
She had been on conventional treatment since January 2023, which included Betahistine and a combination of Cinnarizine with Dimenhydrinate. However, despite regular medication, the episodes continued unabated. The persistent nature of the condition began to interfere significantly with her daily life, limiting her routine and aspirations.
After thorough examinations, Dr. Shah advised a personalized treatment plan, delving into her dietary choices and emotional well-being, addressing not just the physical aspects but also the mental states that might contribute to her condition.
Follow-Ups:
First follow-up—Her first follow-up in November 2024 showed mixed results. While her symptoms still flared, she was encouraged by the improved awareness of her body’s needs.
Second follow-up: By February 2025, the frequency of vertigo episodes significantly decreased to just 1-2 per month, each lasting no longer than 15 minutes. The patient''''s outlook began to improve, marking the start of a positive trajectory.
Third follow-up: By April 2025, the patient had experienced no vertigo episodes for several weeks. Physical symptoms that once restricted her movements were diminishing, and a focus on her mental and emotional health was encouraged.
Last follow-up: By June 2025, the patient returned for her last follow-up. She reported that there were no episodes of vertigo present, no nausea or vomiting, and she was stable.
Conclusion:
This case highlights the importance of a comprehensive treatment approach to managing vertigo, emphasizing both physical and emotional wellness. The patient’s journey showcases significant improvement over months, ultimately leading to her recovery and a return to normalcy. Holistic methods in treatment not only target symptoms but also empower patients to take charge of their health.
