From Sneezing Spells to Serenity: Homeopathy’s Role in Healing 25yrs old Allergic Rhinitis
Allergic rhinitis is caused by the nose and/or eyes coming into contact with allergens in the environment such as pollens (grasses, weeds, or trees), dust mites, molds, and animal dander (fur, hair, or feathers). Signs of allergic rhinitis include a runny/itchy or congested nose, sneezing, and itchy/watery eyes.

Mrs. A.P, 46yrs old, homemaker, resident of Kandivali bearing Patient ID- 53910, visited our Borivali branch on 1st March 2024, with complaints of daily bouts of sneezing accompanied by watery nasal discharge and irritation, especially in the morning which she was suffering for over 25 years. In addition, she was prone to frequent colds, typically once a month, which added to her discomfort.
The patient followed a balanced, mixed diet, maintaining a good appetite and average thirst, drinking around 1.5 to 2 liters of water daily. She tended to perspire profusely, particularly on her face, which was a characteristic trait. Her bowel and bladder functions were normal, and her menstrual history was normal. Physically, she was lean and thin, and she enjoyed sound, uninterrupted sleep.
Her family consisted of her spouse, a railway employee, and their two children one daughter who was studying in SSC and a son who worked as a software engineer.
From childhood, she had been a happy, pampered child. Naturally talkative, mild-mannered, and polite, she also tended to become easily anxious over small matters.
In terms of her medical history, she had recently undergone cataract surgery on her right eye just a week before her consultation.
Her family medical history revealed that her father had suffered from allergic rhinitis and cardiovascular disease, while her mother had hypertension and passed away due to a myocardial infarction.
During the examination, it was noted that her left nasal turbinate was erythematous and hypertrophied.
After a thorough evaluation of her case, Dr. Shah carefully considered her symptoms, family history, and personality traits before prescribing Thuja Occidentalis 30C—a homeopathic remedy believed to address her ongoing issues with allergic rhinitis and other related symptoms.
Follow-ups:
On December 4, 2024, during her first follow-up, the patient reported a noticeable improvement. The frequency and duration of her sneezing episodes had been reduced by 50-60%, and nasal discharge had lessened. Other symptoms like nasal block, cough, and throat irritation had also improved, allowing her to breathe more easily through her nose.
However, by May 25, 2024, the patient noted a relapse in her sneezing. While the intensity had decreased compared to before, she began experiencing sneezing episodes every 2-3 days, lasting 10-12 minutes in the mornings. These episodes were often accompanied by watery nasal discharge and would resolve on their own. It was found that there was aggravation by A.C. She also reported occasional sneezing at night, which disturbed her sleep.
By July 16, 2024, the patient showed some improvement after the first follow-up, but her sneezing, nasal discharge, and nasal irritation had returned after a couple of weeks. The cough, however, had improved, though the exact cause was unknown.
On September 1, 2024, the patient’s symptoms aggravated again. All her complaints were relapsed and she suffered with it for almost a month. The intensity of these episodes was her main concern at that time.
Fortunately, by October 17, 2024, her symptoms had significantly improved. The frequency, intensity, and duration of the allergic rhinitis episodes had decreased, offering the patient much-needed relief.
By November 30, 2024, the patient was doing even better, with no major episodes of sneezing or coryza. She experienced only mild episodes once or twice a week, typically at night. During these mild episodes, she experienced some nasal blockage, itching in the nose and ears, and occasionally in her tongue.
Finally, on January 15, 2025, the patient reported an improvement of about 70%. She only had mild episodes of sneezing once or twice a month, with the episodes resolving within five minutes. The patient’s overall condition had greatly improved, marking a significant step forward in her recovery.
Conclusion:
This case highlights the effectiveness of homeopathy in managing chronic allergic rhinitis. Despite suffering from persistent symptoms for over 25 years, the patient experienced significant relief through individualized homeopathic treatment. Throughout treatment, her episodes of sneezing, nasal discharge, and irritation gradually reduced in frequency, intensity, and duration. This case reaffirms the role of homeopathy in enhancing overall well-being by addressing not just physical symptoms but also underlying predispositions and triggers.
