Dust Allergy Managed Without Antihistamines

A case male aged 30 years Registered in 2024 (Patient ID: 54911) was having symptoms of Allergic rhinitis with constant sneezing with coryza, alternating nasal blockage, and profuse lachrymation with profuse watery discharge from the nose since 2004. The frequency of sneezing was once/twice every month, with a duration of sneezing once started lasting for 2-3 hours to 4 days. His complaints would get worse after exposure to the fan, early morning cold winds as soon as he would get out of bed, and a change of weather. He felt better in warm weather. He was allergic to dust, fumes, and strong powders. He was dependent on Tab. Allegra (Fexofenadine) 120 mg, one tablet daily, for the past 6 months.

In the past, he had a history of recurrent cough in childhood, which was under control with Homeopathy.

Family history: His father suffered from high blood pressure, and his mother had complaints of Lichen planus, warts, and Underactive thyroid. His maternal grandmother suffered from Diabetes.

Mental generals:

The patient was raised in an affluent family and has joined his father in the family business. Because his father has been so strict since he was a child, the patient is afraid of him. His father never supports him, and he does not have a father figure in his life. He is extremely nervous, scared to make decisions, and will consider options two or three times before deciding on anything because of his strict parents. Since her mother also works, he feels neglected all the time. When things do not go his way, he becomes agitated over trivial matters. He felt like a failure all the time.

His case was studied in detail, and as per the case needs of Dr. Rajesh Shah, investigations were suggested & medicines were prescribed individually specific to him.

Follow-ups:

First follow-up: He was 10–20% better in September 2024, sneezing intermittently with a running, watery nose, experiencing fewer periods of alternating nasal obstruction, and had less redness in his eyes. He did not use any antihistamine medications.

Second Follow-Up: The second follow-up was completed on October 29, 2024. The patient''''s condition improved by 50–60%, and there were no significant sneeze fits. After the last follow-up, there was hardly a single episode of sneezing, which lasted for about 30 minutes but was stable without the use of an antihistamine. The frequency and length of sneezing had also decreased. There was no more redness of eyes.

Third Follow-Up: The final follow-up was completed on 20/2/25. With no instances of sneezing, eye redness, nasal blockage, or throat irritation, the patient''''s condition improved by 80–85%. No deterioration of symptoms was seen following dust or fume exposure. No antihistamines had been taken for almost more than 4 months.

Conclusion:

The above case shows the effectiveness of homeopathic medicine in the treatment of allergic rhinitis. Homeopathy plays a major role in the management of allergic rhinitis with a check on subsequent recurrence of episodes in terms of frequency, duration, and intensity. Homeopathy treats the person by giving constitutional treatment based on individualization. The proper administration of the indicated constitutional remedy facilitates rapid, gentle, and permanent restoration of health—that is, cure.
