"A Young Girl’s Battle with Chronic Urticaria"

Miss PP (Patient ID-52582), 29 years old, developed complaints of urticaria after she suffered from a COVID-19 infection in 2022. It started with itching followed by red elevated wheels with a sensation of heat on the skin. She opted for conventional treatment for the same and continued taking the anti-allergic medication Tabet.Allegra 180 since January 2023. Over time, the intensity of urticaria eruptions reduced. Now she was getting only itching with flat red patches over the skin. Being a professional, getting red patches and itching were causing her physical and mental distress. She could not skip the dose of Tablet. Allegra 180. She had to take it every day, and even a delay of half an hour after the action was over would cause the urticaria to relapse.

Being concerned about the side effects of daily intake of antihistamines and lingering urticaria, she decided to turn to homeopathy.

Her urticaria was also getting triggered by pressure and with certain fabrics like polyester. She informed us that she was also allergic to insect bites and would get big papular eruptions after a bite.

She had a strong family history of tendencies for allergies. Her maternal grandmother had asthma, and her maternal uncle had eczema. 

On further inquiring into her case, she said that she was vegetarian with no food preferences. However, she dislikes oily food. She preferred her food in boiled form. She doesn''t feel very thirsty and has difficulty sweating. She could not tolerate cold temperatures.

Her menses were regular but painful since the start, but the intensity of pain reduced as she started with regular yoga exercises.

The patient comes from a small village in Odessa and hence, after 10th, spent most of her time outside her home as there were no good facilities for education in her village. She has studied actuarial sciences and has been working in Mumbai for the past 9 months.

Her father used to be a very domineering figure in her childhood but has mellowed down with age. Her mother is very calm and spiritual by nature. She shares a good relationship with her family. Besides her immediate family, she also has an extended family of 10–15 cousins with whom she shares very close relationships. She is very emotional and attached to her family. 

As a person, she was very reserved in childhood. Started opening up after she moved from her home. Likes to practice yoga, cook, and chat with her friends during her free time. Doesn''t like confrontations and avoids situations where she will have to do an argument.

In the past, she had complaints of frequent colds due to cold food and drinks. Also had piles, eczema, and COVID in 2022 

Dr. Shah analyzed the case and prescribed homeopathic medicine. 

Follow-ups:
For the first 3 months after starting the treatment, there was no visible improvement. However, in the fourth follow-up taken on 9th January 2024, there was a slight improvement. She was able to delay the intake of Tab Allegra 180 from 1 day to 1.5 days. The nature of urticaria also changed. Now instead of getting red patches, it changed to long lines as if scratched.

In the subsequent follow-ups in Feb and March, the frequency of taking Tab Allegra 180 was reduced to once in 2-3 days. She also shifted from Allegra 180 to Allegra 120 and was able to sustain the improvement.

By 29th August 2024, the frequency of urticaria was further reduced. She was now taking Allegra 120 once in 4-5 days.

On 4th October 2024, the requirement for Tab Allegra 120 was further reduced and taken only 5-6 times in the past 6 weeks.

In subsequent follow-ups, the requirement for Allegra 120 was reduced further, and she has not taken any since November 24.

She has been advised to continue the treatment further for a complete recovery.

Conclusion:
This case highlights the potential of homeopathy to address persistent health issues and reduce reliance on conventional medication. The improvement was gradual, highlighting the importance of patience and consistent treatment in chronic cases.
