A Case of Irregular Menses and Dysmenorrhoea Managed Successfully with Homeopathy
Mrs. A.A.J. (Patient ID- 52129), a young married woman, consulted Life Force with the complaint of irregular menses since menarche, accompanied by severe dysmenorrhea and acne for the last 1.5 years.
Her menstrual cycle had always been irregular, with intervals extending up to 50 days, though occasionally it would normalize to 30 days. She had experienced delayed menarche, and earlier in life, her menstrual flow would last 7 days, which had now reduced to 3–4 days. One month prior to her consultation, she experienced an unusual episode of intermenstrual bleeding just 15 days after her last period.
Her dysmenorrhea was severe, causing her to rely on T. Meftal Spas on the first day of every cycle. She reported mood swings 3–4 days prior to and during her periods, along with lower abdominal pain around the expected date of menses—even when the actual flow was delayed.
Though investigations for PCOD had been conducted 3 years ago and returned normal, the pattern of symptoms remained consistent with a possible hormonal imbalance. She had undergone Ayurvedic treatment for a year in the past, which offered relief, but was discontinued. No allopathic treatment had been used for menstrual regulation.
Physical generals:
She is a vegetarian with an average appetite. She reported a strong craving for spicy food and a clear aversion to sweets. Her average daily water intake was around 2 liters, and she described herself as chilly, preferring warmth. Her bowel and bladder habits were normal, and she had sound, undisturbed sleep.
Mental generals:
Mentally and emotionally, she is expressive, loquacious, and anticipatory in nature, often feeling anxious and prone to irritability, especially under stress or when things don''t go as planned. She also experiences marked mood fluctuations before and during her menstrual periods. Her background includes a history of typhoid and measles in childhood, and she is married to a businessman. Despite her physical complaints, she maintains a generally active lifestyle and a good support system.
After a detailed constitutional analysis, individualized homeopathic treatment was prescribed by Dr. Rajesh Shah. The goal was to regulate hormonal function, relieve dysmenorrhea, and balance the patient’s emotional state without the use of hormonal medication.
Follow-ups:
At the first follow-up on 23rd September 2023, Mrs. A.A.J. reported that her menses had become regular, with her last periods occurring on 2nd August and 4th September 2023. The flow lasted 5–6 days, and notably, she did not require T. Meftal Spas this month. She experienced around 5–7% improvement in dysmenorrhea.
By the second follow-up on 11th November 2023, she reported that her menses were completely regular, lasting 3 days with moderate flow. However, she still experienced severe dysmenorrhea and continued to take T. Meftal Spas. Her acne had significantly reduced, with only residual pigmentation remaining.
During the third follow-up on 27th December 2023, she described a 60% overall improvement. Her cycles remained regular, the flow was normal, and for the first time in years, she was able to stop taking T. Meftal. Her acne had also shown considerable improvement.
At the fourth follow-up on 22nd February 2024, she shared that her cycles were still regular, with her last menstrual periods on 19th January and 22nd February. The intensity of dysmenorrhea was 30% better, and she had taken only one dose of T. Meftal in January.
By the fifth follow-up on 26th March 2024, she reported no menses yet for the month, though she experienced abdominal pain, suggesting hormonal activity. Her last menstrual period had been on 22nd February.
Overall she has achieved 70-80% improvement.
Conclusion:
The case illustrates how constitutional homeopathy can provide effective, drug-free relief in hormonal imbalances without resorting to hormonal pills or conventional allopathic medication. Additionally, improvements in her acne and emotional state were noted, reinforcing the value of holistic, mind-body-centered care.
