6 year old child with vitiligo has 95% repigmentation with homeopathy!!

On the 1st of September 2022, a young girl of six years, Miss AT(Patient ID : 49128) visited Mulund clinic alongwith her parents. The girl''''s face was completely wrapped up in a scarf. One could see only her eyes and nothing else. They were welcomed and made comfortable by the front desk executive of the clinic. All the preliminaries were taken and were sent for consultation to the doctor''''s cabin. All the while, the girl''''s face was still in the scarf. Her face photo for case file was not allowed to be taken by her parents, which was very unusual. The entire situation was that of the constant anxiety state of the parents and their reluctance to uncover the child’s face.

They had approached the clinic after searching the internet for homeopathy for their daughter''''s treatment. They had taken treatment from few dermatologists but with no results. The hypopigmentation was further spreading, increasing the anxiety of the parents and their helplessness to do something about it.

Personal:

The patient was an only child, jolly by nature and enjoyed going to school. She was well cared for by her parents, grandparents. The parents frankly disclosed that both had frequent major fights at home for last two years, and the patient had witnessed them many a times. 

Family history:

There was no genetic history of vitiligo. Her grandparents had diabetes mellitus and hypertension. 

Past illness:

There was no significant illness in her past.

At Life force:

The parents were in state of anxiety and confusion when they came in the doctor''''''''s cabin. On enquiring, gradually they came out with their concerns for their daughter. Since last one year, they had noticed hypopigmented spots. Mainly, her lips, nostrils, fingers and leg were affected. On examination, bright white patches were seen on lips and around the lip region, few on fingers and leg were seen. The parents mentioned the areas were increasing and so were the new spots. Recently, a small spot had come on her knee area. On enquiring further, there was no history of kobnoer phenomena nor genetic link.

On Examination:

A Wood''''s lamp examination was done and vitiligo on all areas confirmed. It was shown to the parents as well. They were explained and counselled about the condition. The myths about vitiligo, concern for her future that plagued the parents were gently removed from their minds. All their fears and anxieties had dissipated by the time the case details were taken. 

On the basis of her entire history, Dr Shah prescribed homeopathic medicines for the duration of six weeks. They were also guided about few changes in her diet to be followed. The parents were made aware about the condition, counselled regarding importance of family''''s behaviour towards patient, as it could affect her.  

Follow ups:

At her first follow up on 3rd Oct 2022, there was mild spread on lip noted. But the spots had become dull in color. She was accordingly prescribed homeopathic medicines by Dr Shah for another six weeks. She was also advised supplements for vitamin D3 and deworming was suggested, as she had not taken the same in last 2 to 3 yrs. She was given a prescription for the same.

On the 13th of Nov 2022, all spots had dulled in color and there was no spread nor any new spots noted. The parents mentioned using Elidel cream(an immunosuppressant) daily since a month, which was suggested by one of their relative. They were counselled about the ill effects of long term use of immunosuppressants and advised to gradually taper and stop. They were reassured about homeopathic treatment. The patient was again prescribed by Dr Shah for another six weeks and asked to update.

At the second follow up on 25th of Dec 2022, there was mild repigmentation on all areas. She was again prescribed for another six weeks by Dr Shah.

On the 8th of Feb 2023, the patient had further improved. All the areas had further reduced in size and repigmentation was noted. She was further prescribed for another six weeks by Dr Shah.

During the entire treatment duration, the parents and grandparent had many a query related to vitiligo, which was time and again addressed, resolved and were counseled about it.The patient was also prescribed a roller for application on skin for vitiligo, along with medicines.

During the further three to four months, there was gradual repigmentation of all the areas, although the lip regions were comparatively slower in response, as was expected in muco cutaneous junction areas. This was already explained to the parents as well. She was regular in follow ups and taking medicines on time. Also, dietary changes were being followed. She was accordingly prescribed for six weeks duration by Dr Shah.

After another four months, all areas were completely repigmented, except the lip area and one spot on fingertip. The parents mentioned about few incidences of intake of refrained foods. They were advised to follow diet as was guided. She was again prescribed homeopathic medicines for six weeks by Dr Shah.

On the 24th of Oct 2024, there was noticeable repigmentation on lip area as well and the spot on fingertip had repigmented by 40%. Based on the follow up, she was again prescribed by Dr Shah for another six weeks.

On the 16th of March 2025, the patient showed 95% repigmentation of lip area and 80% repigmentation of the fingertip area. She was prescribed another six weeks duration by Dr Shah and advised to continue treatment for another few months. 

During the latter months of treatment, there was significant change in the behaviour of patient and her family. They were relieved and happy with recovery. The child never wears the scarf now and comes bounding with joy to the clinic!

Conclusions:

This case study shows a child with vitiligo can experience amazing results with homeopathic medicines. Re-pigmentation of the skin can occur easily without any side-effects in a safe and natural manner. 

The above case study also points to many aspects to be addressed for the treatment of vitiligo especially in a child. Apart from correctly prescribed homeopathic medicines for the child, counselling and guidance to child''''s family are important. Awareness about vitiligo and how homeopathic treatment works and the effects of immunosuppressants need to be explained clearly to the family. Homeopathy is completely safe and natural, works gently and amazingly, and can be taken by adults and kids alike.
