Seventy three years old Mr G.M.M. (Patient Identification Number 15389) approached LifeForce Homeopathy for the treatment of Trigeminal Neuralgia. He visited the clinic on 25th January 2011 with complaint of flash like shooting pain. The pain was intermittent since one week but was continuous since last four to five days.. The pain started from below the left ear and was spreading upwards towards the face. This persistent type of pain was limited to cheeks. Pain would increase while getting up from lying position. There was history of dental treatment taken before the pain had started. He had taken antibiotics and painkillers three days back.
He had suffered from tuberculosis in past and had taken AKT for six months. In family history his father had chronic obstructive lung disease an lung cancer
Mr. G.M.M. had also been suffering from allergic rhinitis since thirty years. This episode of seven days duration occurred once in fifteen days. The episodes began with running nose, followed by throat irritation and developed into cough with thick yellow expectoration. The acute episode used to get triggered with cold weather. The symptoms were relived with antibiotics, warm applications and dry weather. Currently he was using Rhinocort nasal spray two times a day since six months.
The patient was occasionally experiencing pain in cervical and lumbar region of back since thirty years. It was radiating pain associated with stiffness. MRI reported decrease in space between vertebrae in cervical and lumbar spine. Patient attributed it to the stress due to his wife’s psychological illness. The pain would get aggravated with exertion and carrying weight. The pain was better after lying down.
Mr. G.M.M was lean and tall in his physique. He had an average appetite for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. He liked having spicy and sweet food. His thirst was average with moderate perspiration all over the body. His bowels were satisfactory and had no complaints in urination. His sleep was disturbed with tendency to sleep on right side.
The patient had a self run business in manufacture of toys. He had two wives, both staying separately. His son had business in UAE and his daughter was married. His first wife was suffering from psychological disorder since pregnancy, due to which patient had started taking sleeping pills to combat the stress. He was mild in nature and very reactive to emotions. He liked to stay all alone by himself. He was staying with both his wives on alternate days but did not share emotions. His childhood days were unhappy. He mentioned that he did not get enough love and affection from his parents, since then he had remained introvert. Currently his major stress was of wife’s psychological illness.
His investigation reports suggested grade 1 fatty liver; raised levels of IgE. There was mild small airway obstruction in lung function test and his stress test was normal. On physical examination his blood pressure was normal, weight was 84 kg, throat was congested. On auscultation of chest expiratory bronchi heard in lower and middle zone of left chest.
On going through the above case details Dr Shah prescribed sulphur 1M two doses and new research based medicines.
In follow up given on 21st February 2011 the pain of neuralgia was much better. But the symptoms related to allergic rhinitis were the same. He was suffering from nose block with throat irritation. There was body pain and malaise along with the above symptoms. Dr Shah prescribed Lycopoium Clavatum 30c, Nux Vomica 30c and new medicines of clinical research.
On 7th March 2011 patient visited clinic for follow up. His trigeminal neuralgia was hundred percent better. Sneezing had reduced by fifty percent. Cough was also less. Body ache was better by more than fifty percent. Dr Shah continued with same medicines that were given last time, and added Silica 30c to the existing prescription.
Patient visited for follow up on 17th May 2011. The frequency of allergic rhinitis had reduced. Now it was once in fifteen days. There was no need of antibiotics and nasal spray to control it. The nasal discharge was greenish yellow and sticky. Patient was complaining of weakness and pain in lower back since fifteen days radiating to both thighs. There was no pain related to trigeminal neuralgia. He was prescribed Nux Vomica 30c, Rhus tox 200c, Lycopodium Clavatum 30c, Silica 30c two doses and some new research based medicines.
Mr. G.M.M. visited after three years on 23rd August 2014. His cold was better by more than fifty percent. The sneezing and nasal discharge had reduced. But he was still experiencing pain in his back and neck. Dr Shah prescribed Nux Vomica 30c, Lycopodium clavatum 30c, Rhus Tox 200c, Silica 30c two doses and new medicines from clinical research.
On 17th December 2014 patient gave his follow up on call. Allergic rhinitis had increased since ten to twelve days due to onset of winter season, but otherwise he was doing well. There was thick yellow discharge with throat irritation and breathlessness. He was given the same medicine that was prescribed last time.
Mr. G.M.M. visited clinic on 31st may 2016 after two years. His trigeminal neuralgia was completely better. Allergic rhinitis was also completely cured by hundred percent. He was experiencing cramps in his calves and thighs since three to four months, once in four to five days. The cramps lasted for ten to fifteen minutes. Radiating pain of back had increased since three to four weeks. The pain increased while rising from sitting position and after exercise. He felt better after stretching and by walking. He was advised for investigations to check the levels of calcium, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, electrolyte levels and serum IgE levels. Dr Shah prescribed Lycopodium Clavatum 30c, Rhus tox 200c, Silica 30c, Arsenicum Album 30c, Lactic Acid 30c and some new research based medicines.
Patient is continuing the treatment for cramps in legs.
