Three months old Diya M (S 7132) was brought to us with the complaint of an inability to sleep since over three weeks. She was cranky, sleepless and restless; as she could sleep hardly for over two hours at a time, even at night. All put together, her sleep was for not more than seven hours in 24 hours, which should be at least for 16 hours.
She was born about two weeks premature, normal delivery. Mother's health was good during pregnancy. No other significant medical history was recorded which could have relevance to the sleeplessness.
She was breast fed most of the time. Her weight gain was normal. She was vaccinated as usual, that is DTP and BCG. Her bowels were normal. There was no apparent cause for her sleeplessness.
She was cranky, irritable, restless due to inadequate sleep. She would keep screaming for hours leading to hoarseness of voice. She was treated by her pediatrician using conventional medicines such as anti-colic remedies and mild tranquilizer; which hardly helped her.
Her case was studied in the manner required for homeopathic prescribing.
She was prescribed new homeopathic medicines (which is Dr Shah’s patent pending) along with Chemomilla and Silica, in the dose indicated for babies.
The first night after the medication, there was no significant improvement. Sleep improved after two days.
Mother reported after a week with joy on her face. The child slept “for eight hours at a time for the first time in last three weeks!”, mother reported, “ that too, third day onwards.”
The treatment was continued for about eight weeks. The child continued sleeping well for over 15 hours. She became more playful, cheerful and no more cranky.
