A 40-year-old Bengali female resident of West Bengal, Mrs. A.S. (PIN: 27744) visited Life Force’s Chembur branch to meet Dr. Shah personally. She started treatment in January 2016 for her complaint of lichen planus. The patient was suffering from lichen planus for the past 2 years. The lesions were present on her entire body, including her hands, legs, back, mouth, and genitals. The lesions were pinkish and brownish. She was experiencing very intense itching in it. The patient had developed white lines on the tongue and gums. As she was experiencing an intense burning in the mouth, she was unable to eat food properly. She had taken steroid treatment for a few months, and she was applying steroid ointments but there was no major relief with it.
Physical Generals
The patient had a normal diet. She loved eating spicy food but she was unable to eat it due to burning in the mouth. Her thirst for water was sufficient. She had no issues related to the urine and stool. Her sleep was disturbed sometimes.
Psychological and Family Make-Up
The patient was a housewife. Her husband had a grocery business. She had 2 kids who were studying in school. The patient was very reserved and introverted. She had a very sensitive nature and often cried very easily.
Self and Family’s Medical History
There was no major illness noticed in the past with the patient. Her parents suffered from diabetes mellitus issues.
At Life Force
After studying the case in detail, Dr. Shah prescribed some research-based homeopathic medicines along with some dietary tips to the patient.
Follow-Ups
On 28th January 2017, the patient reported that she was better with the medicines. There were changes observed in her skin lesions. The skin was better by almost 50% now. Oral lesions were still present, but the burning sensation was a little reduced than before. She was following the diet that was advised to her and was taking medicines on time.
On 17th November 2017, the patient reported that there was improvement noticed with the homeopathic medicines. The spots were reducing gradually in shape and size. The itching was now less than before on the skin. The oral lesions had reduced than before. The burning was still present, but it was less than before. She had experienced an overall recovery with the homeopathic medicines.
On 4th January 2019, the patient reported that she was further better with the homeopathic medicines. She was almost 70% better since starting the homeopathic treatment. Just minimal itching was present on the skin now. Active lesions were reduced and were getting flat now. Hyperpigmented marks were observed more on the skin. The oral lesions were not seen but the burning was present. The patient was unable to eat food properly due to the burning sensation. Based on this feedback, Dr. Shah revised the prescription and gave medicines to the patient.
On 6th April 2021, the patient reported that she was almost 90% better with medicines, but, in the past few months, the burning in the mouth had increased. The skin lesions had subsided and marks were also reduced, but there was an increase in her oral lichen planus. There was excessive burning and the patient was unable to eat or drink anything. Based on this feedback, revised medicines were prescribed to the patient.
On 6th April 2022, the patient was reported to be completely fine with the medicines. She was 100% better with the homeopathic medicines now. The active lesions had subsided with homeopathic medicines. The itching was no longer present. No new lesion had developed. Hyper-pigmented marks were no longer present. The burning in the mouth had vanished. She had no complaints of lichen planus in the past 4 to 5 months. The patient was living a normal and healthy life.
The patient thanked Dr. Shah and the whole Life Force team for treating her and improving her health. The treatment course was long but the patient got complete relief from her disease without any side effects. She is no longer dependent on medicines. She was advised to stop medicines as she was perfectly fine now.
Conclusion
This case illustrates that homeopathy can treat chronic lichen planus and oral lichen planus successfully and safely without any side effects.
