Case of steroid dependent Nephrotic Syndrome...Till date she has never reverted back to steroids and has never had a relapse

A sweet and innocent girl of 2.5 years , Miss A. A (PIN NO - 10997) visited our centre on 4th August 2008, with puffiness of face, swelling of eyelids, bloated abdomen and edematous legs. She was a case of steroid dependent Nephrotic Syndrome. She had been suffering with this complaint since last 1 year and was on increasing dosage of steroid for treatment. Her recent protein levels were 3+. Her steroid dosage was increased from 10 mg to 30 mg in last few months. But, still there was no control with this heavy dosage as well.

>She was brought with lots of hope to Dr. Shah’s clinic for her this complaint.

She was also having associated complaint of recurrent tendency for worm infestation, which were taken care of with conventional medication from time to time.

On inquiring about her personal details , she was a hot patient. Her diet was average with normal thirst. There were no complaints with urine and bowel habits. Her sleep was disturbed.

She was a playful and an active child. At times she would become cranky and irritable.

There was no significant major illnesses in her family. Her paternal grand father had heart disease and maternal grandfather was a diabetic.

Dr. Shah studied her case in detail and advised her to get her protein levels checked. She was prescribed a research based medicine by him.

In the first 2 months of medication her edema and puffiness were decreased to some extent and her urine protein was fluctuating between trace to 1+. Her nephrologists had started a sodium pump inhibitor along with steroids.

In the next follow up after 2 months she reported with no urine protein , no swelling. She was off the steroids since last 2 months and off the sodium pump inhibitor since last 1 month.

In the next follow up after 1 month, she was having an acute complaint of cold , coryza which would previously lead to an aggravation of Nephrotic Syndrome. Now she was adequately treated with Homeopathic medicines and did not get an acute complaint of Nephrotic Syndrome.

For the next 1 year she was being treated with Homeopathic medication prescribed by Dr. Shah, and her urine protein were fluctuating between trace and nil. She never complained of cold and coryza till date.

Till date she has never reverted back to steroids and has never had a relapse.
