A 15 year old boy, Mr. S. A (Patient identification number: S-4620) reported to the clinic with Vitiligo around his eyes, his back, below his right ear and on the right ankle. He had these spots for the past 3 years now.
The Vitiligo spots on his back had been treated with the use of some local ointments. Initially these spots responded well to the local ointments but after discontinuing their use there was increase in the spots. He was now being treated by his local homoeopathic doctor for the past 10 months but since there was no significant improvement in his condition, therefore he switched over to a different approach which is being followed at our clinic.
His personal details: He craved for fruits as well as spices. He had profuse perspiration especially on his arms.
His family set up: He lived with his father (who was a Vice president in a leading company of the city), Mother (who was a teacher in a school), and his brother (who was 19 and was studying).
Family history: There was history of Vitligo in his uncle's case. Apart from this there was no significant history of any major illness in the family. His aunt has Asthma. His grand father also was a known asthmatic.
Past history: He had jaundice and chicken pox as a kid.
His mental make-up: He was a quiet child. He feels sad if he is insulted, and he breaks down in tears. He also feels too low if he scores low marks in exams. He seems to be very independent and confident to the family members. He is very mischievous at school. He is good at sports as well. He had fear of dark and even of being alone.
He did not express his feelings to anyone.
Progress report: Initially there was no appreciable change in his vitiligo spots. The further growth of the spots was halted. There were no new spots appearing as well. This itself was indicative that the medicine are acting and are able to halt the disease process from within the body. He consumed the medication regularly for another 5 months. After which there was gradual improvement in hi spots. This improvement progressed further and he was advised to continue treatment on the similar lines.
There were weeks together which passed by where in apparently the patient did not see any appreciable change in his spots and he therefore used to report to be the same since his last visit to the clinic. The patient was explained that this is an obstinate skin condition and the improvement seen in these cases is very slow and gradual. The patient and his family were convinced with explanation and were therefore very realistic with their expectations.
During the course of the treatment there was a new small white spot which appeared on his right ring finger, but gradually even this spot regained its original color with the aid of the treatment.
After a period of 4 years of treatment, there is over 80% repigmentation in the spots around his eyes. The spot that he had behind his left ear had completed repigmented by now. The spot on his back had also shown repigmentation over 40%.
Remarks: In our day to day clinical practice we receive letters of thanks from our patients and their families for the quality of our service. Cases like these that are doing extremely well show that having faith in your physician and being patient with the treatment can really make a difference in any disease condition.
