Mr. P.S.N. (Patient Identification Number: 11063), a thirty-three-year-old young professional visited Life Force on 21st August 2008 for the treatment of Urticaria.
He was suffering from urticaria since two years. He had severe itching all over the body with hives. He had urticaria episodes everyday for a duration of 30-60 minutes. His complaints increased severely from past 15 days. Along with hives, he also suffered from angioedema of throat. He felt suffocated for around 15-20 minutes. His urticaria complaints increased with exercise, pressure and spicy food. Since past 1 year, he was taking levocetrizine tablets 1-2 times/week. He had also taken steroid injections twice; first dose six months ago and another one a year back. With those conventional medicines, he had only temporary relief. His complaints increased in spite of taking the medicines. He was tired and frustrated and wanted a permanent long-lasting cure to his complaints and thus opted for homeopathic treatment under Dr. Shah.
Since past one year he had been suffering from recurrent aphthous (mouth) ulcers and since two years he was suffering from recurrent upper respiratory infection with cough, white expectoration, irritation in throat, pain in ears with feverish feeling once every month for 2-3 days. His complaints increased with intake of cold food and drinks, ice-cream and dust.
He was a vegetarian by diet and had particular liking for spicy food. He was sensitive to cold climate. His appetite and thirst were average. His perspiration, bowel movements, urination and sleep were normal.
He was working as a project manager in a private firm. His wife was working as a deputy engineer for a bus line in Mumbai and they had a 3-year-old daughter.
He was a confident person. He was reserved, stubborn and dominating. He was short- tempered and would shout easily. He liked reading and did not have any apparent stress.
He did not have history of any major illness. His mother was suffering from hypertension and paralysis and his sister suffered from sinusitis.
Dr. Shah studied his case in detail and prescribed him Carcinosin 200 along with his research based medicine for urticaria.
First follow up
After one month, he reported in September 2008 over phone. There was considerable improvement in his urticaria complaints; the frequency and intensity of urticaria episodes had reduced. There was no episode of angioedema of throat since the start of the medicine. His aphthous ulcers were better and his respiratory complaints had also reduced. He had stopped all anti-histamines since the day he started with homeopathic treatment.
Second follow up
After 10 months of regular follow-up and treatment, in July 2009 he reported of significant improvement in his urticaria complaints. He occasionally had itching but with very mild intensity. There were no complaints of mouth ulcers or cough. He was happy with the improvement.
Third follow up
He then reported to Life Force after 3 years in June 2012 that his urticaria was much under control. He would get urticaria episodes from pressure, outside food, rubbing, after bath, work pressure and stress. But the intensity of urticaria was very mild and it was self-limiting. The frequency of episodes were 2-3 times/week for around 5-10 minutes. He also reported of low back pain and anxiety attacks for which his treatment was started. He had anxiety related to health and future. He took medicines for 4 months and showed remarkable improvement in all his complaints.
Fourth follow up
He visited Life Force after 2 years in July 2014. He was glad to report that he was completely cured of urticaria and had no urticaria episodes. He did not have any complaints regarding back pain. He had now come to restart his treatment for anxiety disorder. He was hopeful of excellent recovery in his new complaint as well.
This case highlights the marvelous improvement homeopathy can deliver even in severe cases of urticaria. Homeopathy corrects the immunity and brings long-term recovery.
