Remarkable improvement in a 19 years old with Colitis
A 19-year-old college girl (Patient ID: 53323) along with her mother visited Mulund clinic in December 2023 for her complaint of
recurrent episodes of retrosternal burning, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, and eructations, which all started around 8 to 9 months ago. The complaints started during her 12th grade exam period when the patient was under stress and used to indulge in spicy foods at irregular times, many times outside food. She also complained about motions taking usually longer, at least 20 to 25 minutes to pass, despite being soft and not hard.
Her investigations were as follows:
- (05.05.2023): Calprotectin (stool): 56.60(High)
- (22.4.2023): Calprotectin (stool): 121 (High)
- (14.4.2023): Colonoscopy:
- Impression: Terminal Ileal Ulcerations
- (17.4.2023): Histopathology Report (Ileal Biopsy):
- Diagnosis: Moderate ileitis with focal activity and reactive lymphoid hyperplasia
She had taken conventional treatment for a week from a well-known gastroenterologist and was better temporarily, but she still complained of having symptoms for three to four days a week, which lasted for 7 to 8 hours and more so in the evenings.
Associated illness:
Apart from colitis, she had no other illness except occasional acne.
Personal and family setup:
The patient lived with her parents and younger sibling and shared close bonding with all in the family. She had completed her 12th Std. and
had just started her first-year B.Pharm. By nature, she was short-tempered and easily angered but was never vocal about it. She was studious and had an excellent memory. Although she was not of the nervous type, she had a habit of biting her nails when anxious. Her father was a professional graphic designer, while her mother was a devoted homemaker.
Past illness:
There was no significant history of any illness in the past.
Family illness:
Although there were no known similar complaints in her family, her mother suffered from migraine.
At Life Force:
On examination, there was no tenderness of the abdomen, and all her vitals were within normal limits as well.
She was advised a few blood investigations, and a prescription was given for the same. She was also advised a few changes in her diet habits
schedule, and lifestyle, including exercises for physical and mental calmness.
After going through her entire case details, Dr. Shah prescribed homeopathic medicines for six weeks and asked for an update.
Follow ups:
On the 4th of Feb 2024, the patient gave her feedback, mentioning a significant reduction in flatulence and eructations, while abdominal pain and epigastric burning occurred twice in the last 15-20 days, especially after meals. She still complained of loss of appetite. Based on her feedback, she was further prescribed by Dr. Shah for another six weeks of homeopathic medicines.
Meanwhile, since there was a deficiency noted in her blood tests for vitamin D3 and B12, she was prescribed supplements for the same.
At the next follow-up on the 27th of March 2024, the patient mentioned that although the severity had reduced, the abdominal pain still occurred two to three times in 15 days. The rest of the symptoms had further reduced. Also, she has not required any conventional treatment so far since starting our treatment. Based on her feedback, she was further prescribed by Dr. Shah for another six weeks.
Further follow-up on May 22, 2024: the patient stated no episodes of abdominal pain in the last month. There was an episode of gases with loose stools that occurred after overindulgence of bakery food by the patient. The episode subsided solely with our homeopathic medicines, without requiring the intervention of conventional treatment. Based on her follow-up, she was further prescribed medicines by Dr. Shah for the next six weeks.
For the next three to four months, the patient had no major episodes. There was occasional epigastric burning after intake of outside spicy foods, which subsided on its own in 15 minutes. She was accordingly prescribed homeopathic medications by Dr. Shah.
On the 6th of Dec 2024, the patient gave her feedback, saying she had no episodes of any complaints at all and was doing well. Also, she was following healthy dietary habits and exercises as was advised earlier. She was again prescribed homeopathic medications by Dr. Shah.
Conclusion:
This case shows the efficacy of homeopathic medicines in chronic cases with pathology. Although the complaints were chronic and associated with pathology, homeopathic medicines showed improvement within a short period, unlike the myth of long-term treatment needed for every chronic case. The patient was never required to take any other conventional treatment after starting homeopathic treatment.
