Recurrent Asthma Episodes Controlled in a Child with Strong Family History of Allergies

A three-year-old girl (Patient ID: 34110), Miss V.P., visited Life Force Homeopathy in August 2017 with complaints of asthma. The condition had started after consuming ice cream, leading to severe breathlessness and gasping for air. Initially, she experienced two episodes within three months, each lasting for 1-2 days. The episodes would subside with conventional medication, including bronchodilators and antihistamines. Before visiting Life Force Homeopathy, she was dependent on a Budecort inhaler of 200 mg twice daily and an Asthalin inhaler on an as-needed basis, taken twice during severe episodes.

Her medical history also revealed a significant episode of rotavirus infection at eleven months of age.

The patient also suffered from frequent colds occurring once a month, lasting for 2-3 days, characterized by watery nasal discharge and occasional sneezing. These symptoms would worsen during seasonal changes and after consuming cold drinks or ice cream. She was underweight for her age, despite having a normal appetite and adequate milk intake.

The child''s thermal profile indicated that she was predominantly hot. Her perspiration was average, and she had satisfactory bowel movements and urination patterns. Her sleep was sound, and her physical development milestones were normal, though she was born underweight at 1.2 kilograms through a cesarean section.

The patient came from a family with a strong history of allergic conditions. Her maternal uncle had asthma, her twin brother suffered from atopic dermatitis, her father had psoriasis, and her maternal grandfather had multiple conditions, including urticaria, rheumatoid arthritis, and an underactive thyroid. Her mother also had allergic rhinitis.

Mentally, the child was mild-mannered, gentle, and clever. She was friendly and willing to share her toys with others. She showed a strong attachment to her grandparents but could manage well without her parents. Her intellectual capabilities were good for her age.

Dr. Rajesh Shah studied the case in detail and prescribed treatment based on the complete history.

Follow-ups:

The patient took treatment from LifeForce homeopathy for asthma from October 2017 to January 2019 and was completely better from January 2019 to June 2022 with no dependency on any inhalers. A relapse occurred in July 2022 with a severe episode of breathlessness and cough requiring hospital admission, and hence, the patient restarted her treatment.

No asthmatic episode was reported from November 2022 to February 2023. The patient maintained good general health, and her respiratory symptoms remained well-controlled. The frequency of common colds had also decreased significantly. The patient was not on any inhalers.

During the follow-up in May 2023, a mild episode was reported in late April, triggered by climate change. The patient experienced coryza, cough, and wheezing, with oxygen levels dropping to 94%. However, the severity was notably less compared to previous episodes and was managed with an antibiotic and Asthalin inhaler.

For the follow-up done in July 2023, the patient reported stable improvement with no asthmatic episodes; however, she had a cough with expectoration due to rainy weather.

In August 2023, frequent episodes of cough with expectoration were reported, which required conventional treatment and restarting on the Budecort inhaler.

In September 2023, the patient reported only occasional episodes of mild cough with expectoration, each lasting about 15 days. These episodes were self-limiting and required minimal intervention. Maintained on a once-daily Budecort inhaler.

From October 2023 to January 2024, the patient was stable with no severe asthmatic episodes reported and only occasional cough and coryza. She continued on a Budecort inhaler once a day.

In February 2024, a more challenging period occurred with one severe episode where oxygen saturation dropped to 82% at night. However, the patient recovered well with the short-term use of Asthalin for five days. This episode was notably different from earlier ones, as recovery was faster and post-episode stability was better.

March to September 2024 marked a period of sustained improvement in the patient''s condition, with only one major breathlessness episode in September. Occasional acute cough and cold due to climate changes were well managed. The patient continued the use of a Budecort inhaler once a day.

In November 2024 the patient remained stable and was advised to reduce the use of Budecort to alternate days instead of daily.

In February 2025, the patient showed good improvement. She had been stable on the reduced use of the Budecort inhaler, from daily to alternate days, for the last 3 months, and during the follow-up, she also mentioned that she had stopped the use completely in the last 25 days.

In March 2025 for the final follow-up, the patient showed remarkable improvement. She had been completely free from asthmatic episodes for several months. Most significantly, she had successfully discontinued the Budecort inhaler and maintained stability. Only occasional sneezing with a runny nose persisted, mainly triggered by environmental factors like dust from home renovation and pollution.

Conclusion:

The case exemplifies the potential of homeopathic treatment in managing childhood asthma, offering a gentle yet effective approach to building long-term respiratory health. The patient transitioned from requiring regular conventional medication to minimal dependency, with longer intervals between episodes and reduced severity when they did occur, which suggests a deeper level of healing achieved through homeopathic treatment at Life Force Homeopathy.
