Rebuilding Self Esteem by Ending the Alopecia Struggle Through Homeopathy
Mrs. V.K., a sixty-one-year-old housewife, distressed and disheartened, walked into the Life Force Homeopathy clinic (Patient ID: 51632) for Alopecia areata treatment, from which she has been suffering since 2020. She had an alopecia patch with scarring seen along the hairline (frontal). 2 coin-shaped patches were seen on the occipital area; loss of hair from eyebrows was also present for 3 years. She used an eyebrow pencil to cover the eyebrow patches. Hairfall of around 150-200 strands/day was present. Hair fall increased after combing the hair. When she saw us during her first consultation, she mentioned using steroid ointment application, so it was a steroid-masked presentation. She was using Tacroz forte ointment 0.1% at night and on weekends and Mintop (minoxidil) 5% at night on weekdays.
Family History: Her father and uncle suffered from Eczema.
Physical general: Her build was average, so the perspiration and thirst. Thermally, she was chilly. She had menopause at the age of 47 and did not have children.
Mental generals: She was irritable, loquacious, and a perfectionist.
A thorough case was taken at Life Force Homeopathy and evaluated in-depth by Dr. Rajesh Shah, and after assessing all symptoms, Sepia 30 was prescribed. Along with a blood test, dietary recommendations and some lifestyle modifications were suggested. Because the vitamin levels were low, some supplements were recommended.
Follow-ups:
The follow-up on 11.7.23 was thorough. She stopped using steroidal treatments, and there was regrowth seen; a 50% reduction in hair fall was noted. During this follow-up, along with their physical complaints, the patient also described the psychological effects of having alopecia. As per the case, needed medicines were revised.
Following up on September 25, 2023, there was a noteworthy 50% decrease in hair loss, reducing to just 10 strands per day after hair washing. Tiny new hairs started to grow along the occipital area and frontal hairline, which was even more encouraging.
The vertex showed discernible regrowth at follow-up 16.1.24, although the temple''s bald patches stayed the same but did not become worse. Crucially, there were no new bald spots.
Follow-up on 15.7.24 showed improvement on the left temporal lobe and vertex generally, but for a month, hairfall increased. Her case was re-evaluated, and accordingly, the prescription was done.
On follow-up day 19.9.24, the frontal patch was the same, but fresh hair growth emerged in the occipital area.
When they followed up on January 5, 2025, she reported that hair loss had drastically decreased and, more crucially, that all of the bald areas had begun to come back healthily. Her confidence had started to return, and there were no new bald spots.
Conclusion:
This case demonstrates the efficacy of Homeopathy in treating steroid-masked cases of Alopecia areata. Despite chronic alopecia areata masked by long-term steroid use, her steady improvement—with significant hair regrowth and reduction in hair fall illustrates how holistic treatment can address both physical and emotional impacts. By gradually eliminating dependency on steroids and enhancing natural recovery, her case highlights how effective homeopathy can be, even in elderly patients with longstanding conditions and psychological distress.
