"Persistent, Difficult Psoriasis in Teen Girl Improves with Homeopathic Treatment"

Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease characterized by thick, patchy, red, scaly skin that is long-lasting and non-contagious. Its causes include genetic and environmental factors. Common triggering factors for psoriasis include infections, weather (especially dry, cold weather), skin injury, stress, smoking, alcohol, side effects of certain medications, rapid withdrawal of steroids, and other autoimmune conditions like HIV or rheumatoid arthritis. Common symptoms include red, scaly patches of skin, extreme dryness with cracks, itching with burning and soreness, thickened or pitted nails, and swollen or stiff joints.
Types of psoriasis include plaque, guttate, inverse, pustular, erythrodermic, palmo-plantar, and psoriatic arthritis.

Case Study:
A 13-year-old teenage girl (Patient ID: 42133) took an online consultation at Life Force, Jayanagar branch, on 26th December 2019, with complaints of psoriasis that she had been suffering from for 5 years. The main symptoms she presented with were scaly eruptions on her legs, abdomen, chest, hands, face, scalp, and back. The skin was dry and rough. Complaints worsened during extreme weather conditions, and she had a severe burning sensation after scratching.
Her past and present treatment history was reviewed. The family history was assessed to rule out a genetic predisposition, and there was no relevant family history of any autoimmune disease.
A thorough and detailed case-taking was performed, considering both her mental and physical generals. She was a non-vegetarian with an average appetite and craved chocolates. Her thirst was low, and she drank around 1 to 1.5 liters of water daily. She had average perspiration and couldn''t tolerate extreme winter conditions. Her bowel movements were satisfactory, and she had no urinary issues. She also reported having a sound sleep.

Psychological Outlook:
The patient had a very happy childhood, supported by a well-knit family. She was naturally shy but enjoyed the company of her close circle of friends. She excelled in her studies and was fond of traveling and reading books. She rarely expressed her feelings to anyone, even her family members.
Her intellectual sphere was also assessed, and her memory, intelligence, perception, logic, and analysis were all found to be good.

Dr. Shah thoroughly reviewed the case file and prescribed medicines after evaluating the entire case. The patient was also advised to follow the psoriasis diet chart given to her.

Follow-up:
The first follow-up was conducted on 4th March 2020. The patient showed significant improvement right from the first follow-up. No new lesions appeared, and the old lesions remained stable. Healed eruptions left hyper-pigmented scar marks, particularly on the legs.
The patient continued to improve in subsequent follow-ups. However, her first relapse occurred on 11th November 2020, when healed eruptions began reappearing all over her body. The acute flare-up was triggered by the cold weather. Medicines were revised and sent to her.
Her condition stabilized by 24th March 2021, and she showed further improvement in subsequent follow-ups.
The second relapse occurred on 16th February 2022, after she took the rabies vaccination. This time, the relapse was less severe. She developed new eruptions, especially on her face and behind her ears, with increased redness and dryness, and experienced intense itching. Medicines were revised and sent, and she responded well to the new treatment.
The symptoms were under control in the next 9 months, but a third relapse occurred during the winter on 28th December 2022. The condition took some time to stabilize, but after a couple of months, the patient responded well to the treatment.
The patient has been stable since 12th September 2023, with no relapse even during the severe winter of 2023 and 2024.
Overall, the patient was 80% better and continued treatment at Life Force. She expressed immense satisfaction with the treatment, particularly noting the complete absence of relapses and the stability of her skin symptoms, even during climate fluctuations. The patient conveyed her gratitude to Dr. Shah and the entire Life Force team for the excellent results.

Conclusion:

In cases of frequently relapsing psoriasis, homeopathy offers a promising solution by addressing the underlying immunological imbalances that trigger the condition. Unlike conventional treatments, which often focus on managing flare-ups, homeopathic remedies work by stimulating the body''s natural healing mechanisms, leading to long-term stability and a reduction in the frequency of relapses.By strengthening the immune system and promoting balance, homeopathy can provide a lasting solution to the persistent nature of relapsing psoriasis.
