Overcoming Recurrent UTIs in a Diabetic Patient and Reducing Antibiotic Dependency

Mrs. S. D., a sixty-year-old woman with (Patient ID: 26603), started her online treatment at the Life Force Homeopathy Chembur clinic in March 2022 for urinary complaints that had been troubling her for the past five years.

She presented with severe burning micturition, frequent urination every five minutes, and dribbling of urine that had been particularly distressing for the last ten days. Her condition had become so severe that she described the burning sensation as "like red chilies sprinkled" throughout urination. She had been hospitalized fifteen days before consulting at Life Force due to the severity of her symptoms. Her recent sonography done in February 2022 was suggestive of cystitis. She reported at least one episode of cystitis per month lasting for 7-8 days; however, her complaints had been continuous for the last 2-3 months. Despite taking multiple courses of allopathic antibiotics over the years, her condition showed only temporary relief with frequent relapses.

She had also taken treatment at Life Force in the past for recurrent Urinary tract infections and had found good improvement.

Along with her primary complaint of cystitis, Mrs S. D. also suffered from diabetes mellitus for the past fourteen years, for which she was on anti-diabetic medication. She also had bronchitis for two to three years, experiencing cough with expectoration, especially when lying down, and osteoarthritis affecting both knee joints with pain on rising from a sitting position and extending the knees.

She preferred non-vegetarian food, but mostly consumed vegetarian meals in small quantities. She reported being ambithermal and had an average sweating pattern. Her physical appearance was thin, and her sleep was severely disturbed due to the continuous urge to urinate.

Mrs S. D. lived as a housewife with her husband, son, daughter-in-law, and their two children. Her family setup appeared stable, though her illness was causing considerable stress in her daily functioning and relationships.

Her family history revealed that her father had suffered from Tuberculosis and her mother had diabetes.

Her past medical history was significant for ulcerative colitis and a partial ileostomy done 12 years back. During this period, she had suffered from tuberculosis. She had undergone two surgeries for ulcerative colitis and also had a hysterectomy done.

Mentally and emotionally, Mrs S. D. was predominantly sad and depressed, mainly due to her prolonged illness.

Dr. Shah studied the case in detail, analyzing the chronic and recurrent nature of her cystitis, her constitutional symptoms, her mental state, and the totality of her case. Considering her tendency towards infections, her emotional state, and her physical generals, he prescribed Medorrhium 30c.

Follow-ups:

For the first follow-up done in April 2022, the patient reported good improvement with the first batch of medicines sent in February 2022. The burning sensation during urination had reduced, and she had not taken any additional allopathic medications.

During the follow-up in June 2022, she continued to show improvement with very slight burning present. The overall condition was much better compared to her initial presentation. The frequency and intensity of episodes had reduced considerably.

In August 2022, the patient experienced a temporary setback with three episodes in the last month requiring allopathic medicines. However, the burning sensation was still much improved compared to her initial state.

During the follow-up in October 2022, significant progress was noted, with no burning sensation during urination. The patient had not needed any allopathic medicines in the past month, indicating sustained improvement with homeopathic treatment alone.

In December 2022, a minor relapse occurred with burning during urination for three to four days, but the intensity was much less than her initial presentation.

Follow-up on 10th February 2023, the burning sensation persisted for fifteen days without significant decrease, requiring treatment modification. In March 2023, the patient reported having responded well to the additional prescription.

From April to July 2023, the patient showed stable and sustained improvement with occasional burning during urination, which was well managed.

In August 2023, the patient experienced a recent episode for three days with burning and frequent urination and had to take antibiotics, but episodes were now limited to one to two times per month instead of daily occurrences.

From October to December 2023, the patient remained stable with episodes occurring only one to two times per month. When episodes occurred, they still required antibiotics, but the frequency had dramatically reduced.

From January to June 2024, the patient showed excellent progress with no major complaints of burning while urinating and remained largely asymptomatic, representing about 70-80 % improvement.

In July 2024, the patient reported burning during urination for one week, requiring antibiotics for one week. This represented the first episode after months of wellness.

From September to December 2024, there was continued recovery with no episodes after July 2024, and the patient was doing well.

On 23rd January 2025, during the follow-up, the patient was doing very well overall with no complaints of burning during urination or abdominal pain, representing excellent long-term control.

However, on 20th March 2025, after months of wellness, she experienced a relapse with burning during urination, a frequent urge to urinate with small quantities of urine, and a sensation of incomplete voiding for one week, requiring antibiotics. There was no abdominal pain or blood in the urine.

For the most recent follow-up on 15th May 2025, good improvement overall was reported, with the last major episode occurring one month prior, which required antibiotics. And currently, her symptoms are well-controlled with homeopathic treatment.

The patient is still under our care at Lifeforce and has achieved remarkable improvement from a condition that had plagued her for five years with frequent hospitalizations and antibiotic dependency. Through homeopathic treatment, she experienced not only a significant reduction in the frequency and intensity of cystitis episodes but also an overall improvement in her quality of life. The case highlights the importance of long-term, consistent treatment in cases of chronic recurrent conditions like cystitis for sustained recovery.
