"No More Laxatives Homeopathy for Chronic Constipation"
Constipation is a problem with passing stool. Constipation generally means passing fewer than three stools a week or having difficulty passing stools. Constipation is fairly common. A lack of dietary fiber, fluids, and exercise can cause constipation. However, other medical conditions or certain medicines may be the cause. Constipation is usually treated with changes in diet and exercise or with nonprescription medicines. Constipation may require medicines or other treatments prescribed by a health care professional.
Case study:
Mr. P.M. (Patient ID: 54199) was enrolled in the Life Force Homeopathy Branch on April 2, 2024, with complaints of constipation since 2016 with the inability to pass stools normally, altered bowel movement, and an ineffectual desire to pass stools, along with straining at times and experiencing abdominal bloating and cramps at times.
By taking counter-laxatives regularly, he would pass stool twice a week. After lunch, there was flatulence and abdominal bloating, along with a feeling of incomplete evacuation after passing stool. He consumes roughly 2.5–3 liters of water per day, in the form of plain water, daal, and curries. His diet did tend to be a combination of mostly non-vegetarian and occasionally vegetarian. His sedentary lifestyle, consumption of rich foods, and lack of vegetables were the causes of his constipation and would get worse after consuming milk, maida, chapati (gluten), and baked goods. He felt better when salads were occasionally added to the diet.
In the past, he had a history of fissure-in-ano for which he had undergone surgery.
Dietary details:
Morning breakfast: tea with toast or Khari or chapati and sabji, or at times poha.
Lunch: No fixed lunch as such, as he is mostly on fieldwork, so he does eat outside only anything available, veggie thali or non-veg thali too; no home food he does carry.
Evening: Some snacks like vada pav, samosa, or bhel with tea
Dinner: No fixed timing as such, mostly mutton intake 3-4 times/week
When he saw us, he was on the following medicines:
1. Zandu pancharishta 15-30 ml OD daily since 2016 or
2. Amrita Bindu 10 ml OD daily since 2016.
P/H/O:-Angioplasty done in 2017 was not on any medications.
F/H/O:-Father:- HTN
Follow-Ups:
On 15th May 2024, the first follow-up was taken with a 10% improvement. The straining reduced slightly. The ineffectual desire was still present, and bloating of the abdomen was also reduced by 10%.
During the second follow-up, 28th June 2024, he was overall better by 20-25%; the frequency of passing stool was 3-4 times/week; he strained while passing stool. He was better in terms of bloating and flatulence. The patient stopped the intake of laxatives since the last follow-up.
During the third follow-up, which was taken on 14th August 2024, conventional medicine was stopped, and all other complaints were better by 40-50%.
The last follow-up was done on 23rd October 2024; the patient was having an improvement of 50–70% and was much better in terms of flatulence and was able to pass stools normally; there was no need to take any conventional medicine.
Conclusion:
Homeopathic treatment for constipation offers a promising solution for those seeking a natural and gentle approach to managing digestive discomfort. By focusing on individual symptoms and underlying health patterns, homeopathy provides targeted relief that works toward long-term relief. Embracing homeopathic remedies can be a crucial step towards achieving a balanced digestive system and enhancing overall well-being without relying on conventional drugs.
