A 16 Year Journey of Healing Childhood Vitiligo with Homeopathy
A 5-year-old male patient visited Life Force Homeopathy on 2nd February 2009 with his parents for the treatment of vitiligo. He had a hypopigmented patch on the left side below his lower lip, which had been gradually spreading for the past one and a half months, since December 2008. The patient had been applying an immunosuppressant ointment since January 2009 and had started homeopathic medicines two weeks before his visit.
The patient also suffered from allergic rhinitis, which was being treated with homeopathic medicines.
Physical Generals: The patient’s appetite and thirst were normal. He was sensitive to cold weather. His sleep was sound, and bowel and urination habits were regular with no complaints.
Personal History: The patient was born in Uttar Pradesh and was studying in the 1st standard. He had one elder brother. His father worked at Reliance Industries, and his mother was a homemaker.
Mental Generals: The child was jolly, playful, irritable, short-tempered, and stubborn. He was very active, enjoyed participating in extracurricular activities, was confident, and had a good memory.
Family History: The patient’s mother had hypothyroidism. His paternal grandmother had throat cancer, and his maternal grandfather suffered from hypertension.
Life Force Homeopathy:
After studying the case in detail, Dr. Shah prescribed research-based homeopathic medicines along with dietary advice.
Follow-Ups:
23rd March 2009:
After starting the medicines, the patient’s parents noticed a new hypopigmented patch below the right side of the lower lip and became anxious. However, during the follow-up, it was observed that the new patch had started re-pigmenting, and the old spot was also showing signs of re-pigmentation.
8th July 2009:
The old patch had increased in width, and new spots had appeared on the nose and face.
16th December 2009:
Progression of the disease was noted. The old patch continued to increase gradually, and new spots appeared behind the ear.
7th June 2010:
Slight re-pigmentation was observed at the edges and in the center of the large spot.
9th December 2010:
Further improvement was seen in the hypopigmented patches on the nose and lips, while the patch behind the ear remained unchanged.
27th July 2011:
There was around 80% improvement in the vitiligo patch below the lower lip, though the patch at the nape of the neck showed no improvement.
16th May 2012:
The facial patch had shown 100% improvement. However, one patch was noticed on the scalp, and the hair in that area had turned white.
The patient was better, and the parents discontinued the treatment. However, after a few months, new hypopigmented patches appeared on the chest, nose, and below the left eye. The treatment was restarted in November 2015. The mother was anxious about the spread and appearance of new spots, but was reassured by the doctors.
July 2016:
Gradual re-pigmentation was observed after 2–3 months of restarting treatment.
21st July 2017:
Re-pigmentation continued, and dietary and nutritional supplementation was advised for underlying deficiencies.
23rd July 2018:
The patient developed a boil on his forearm and back a few months earlier, which left a hypopigmented patch. This patch also started re-pigmenting. All other areas had completely re-pigmented.
Over the next 7–8 months, no new spots appeared, and all old spots were re-pigmented.
April 2019:
A small new hypopigmented spot was noticed on the hand, which showed re-pigmentation by August 2019.
2020–2021:
No vitiligo patches were seen during this period.
December 2021:
A slight hypopigmentation reappeared below the lower lip on the left side. By November 2022, this patch showed 50–60% re-pigmentation.
4th September 2025 (Latest Follow-Up):
No new spots were observed over the past several years. The spot below the lower lip showed about 90% re-pigmentation.
Conclusion:
This case of a 5-year-old boy with vitiligo demonstrated a long-term, consistent, and well-monitored homeopathic treatment approach that resulted in remarkable improvement over the years. Initially, the disease showed progression with new hypopigmented patches appearing on the face, neck, and scalp. However, with regular homeopathic medicines, dietary guidance, and supportive care, gradual and sustained re-pigmentation was achieved in most affected areas.
Despite a few relapses and occasional new spots, timely medical intervention led to effective control. By 2020, the patient was largely spot-free, and the minor relapses thereafter responded well to treatment. As of September 2025, there had been no new spots for several years, and the remaining patch below the lip had re-pigmented up to 90%.
Overall, this case highlights a successful long-term management of vitiligo through homeopathy, emphasizing consistency, patience, and holistic care.
