Regaining Mobility and Confidence: Homeopathic Management of Osteoarthritis in a 61-Year-Old Woman
S.D., a 61-year-old female with a long-standing history of osteoarthritis in the knees since 2012, visited the Chembur clinic seeking relief from knee pain that limited her daily activities and exercise. Despite previous Ayurvedic treatment and herbal supplements, her condition showed no significant improvement. She led a disciplined lifestyle, followed a mostly vegetarian diet, and was active in social work post-retirement. Under the care of Dr. Shah, S.D. received individualized homeopathic treatment along with dietary guidance and weight management advice. Over successive follow-ups, her knee pain steadily improved—initially reducing in intensity after exertion, then achieving 90% relief by November 2023. She continued treatment to maintain stability and slow disease progression. This case demonstrates how homeopathy can effectively alleviate chronic pain, improve quality of life, and restore confidence without the need for surgical interventions, allowing individuals to continue an active and fulfilling life.

Case History
A lady named S.D. (Patient ID: 51092) visited the Chembur clinic on March 28, 2023, to meet Dr. Shah with a complaint of knee pain, which was hindering her exercises and day-to-day activities. She was a 61-year-old Female with knee pain diagnosed as Osteoarthritis since 2012, which was stable but not improving with the ayurvedic treatment she had been under for 5-6 months. She was also taking some herbal health supplements. She was a very healthy woman for her age with no other health complaints and no ongoing disease or medication, so she wanted to get rid of her knee pain and achieve complete health. Her knee pain was not continuous; it bothered her only when she climbed stairs or exerted herself in any way.
Physical generals:
Following a strict and healthy diet for many years, vegetarian by dietary habits, she had occasional eggs, with less appetite and a desire for moderately spicy food, less water intake, and also no complaints with her stools and micturition. She had a good 7–8 hours of sleep.
Mental generals:
She was a good, kind-hearted person with strict discipline in her life and was very straightforward by nature but also very caring and affectionate towards people whom she liked. This nature of hers drew her towards social service. After retiring from her job, she worked with an NGO as a social worker.
She met Dr. Shah and started the treatment for her knee pain. She was also advised to make certain dietary changes and reduce her weight, as she was on the heavier side according to her height, which was putting pressure on her knees and would hamper the effect of the treatment.
Follow-ups
1st Follow-up – 11th May 2023:
She was better in her pain, but the frequency and duration of pain were 10–15 minutes after exertion or climbing stairs.
2nd Follow-up:
She said she was 90% better in her pain.
The pain was about 50% better in intensity but not fully recovered, and there was no change in the duration of pain.
Follow-up in November 2023:
She further wanted to slow down the progress of the disease, and so she continued to achieve stability in her disease as maintenance treatment.
Conclusion
The above case is a good example of how homeopathy gives freedom to people of every age by relieving them from their pains and aches without any major surgical intervention—just with internal medicines—and this, in turn, gives them hope and confidence to live a better and enriching life.
