Chronic Urticaria Successfully Managed with Homeopathy in a 37-Year-Old Patient
A 37-year-old female suffering from recurrent urticaria after COVID-19 vaccination experienced frequent itchy rashes for years. Conventional medications offered limited relief. A female patient of age 37 years from Mumbai (Patient ID: 45960) complained of recurrent raised papular erythematous rash and itching almost all over the body. The patient took the COVID-19 vaccine on 19.06.2021 and 21.06.2021, and she started getting rashes all over her body. The rashes were small raised papular rashes on the cheeks, forehead, and chin, and scattered raised papular rashes on the hands.
She had itching of eruptions mostly at night with reddish discoloration of skin. The frequency of episodes was 4-5 times/week with moderate intensity. She had a history of Urticaria earlier as well, which was treated with a Tablet. Allegra for 5 years from 2010 till 2015.
On examination, dermatographism was positive.
Physical Generals
She was taking average mixed meals, has a craving for spicy and sour things, and is averse to sweets. Average thirst for 2 liters/day with average perspiration in the axilla (bilateral) even without exertion. She did not have complaints of bowel movements or micturition. Thermally, the patient was hot. Her sleep was sound for 7 hours; however, she rarely got up at night due to itching.
Personal History
She has been working in an IT logic company for 8 years, and her husband has a transport business. Her father retired from the dry fruits business, her mother was a homemaker, and her brother was working in the USA. Her life was overall happy and well-supported.
Mental Generals
She was mild, gentle, and sober. Usually does not express herself and likes to stay reserved. She gets easily attached to someone and is affectionate for them.
Past History
Jaundice at the age of 13 years.
Family History
Her father has diabetes mellitus, and her cousin''s sister from the maternal side has urticaria.
Based on the totality of symptoms narrated by the patients, Dr. Rajesh Shah studied the case and prescribed her the medication based on his research and experience.
Follow-Ups
Her first follow-up was taken on 10th September 2021, where the patient was overall better and would get morning rashes, which subsided after some time. No severe episode of urticaria was noted.
Her second follow-up was taken on November 4, 2021, where she had a 40% improvement in her complaints. Urticarial rashes and itching were much improved. Red rashes subside within 2 hours on their own.
Her next follow-up was taken on 16th December 2021, where severity and duration were better by 60 to 70%. Urticaria persists daily but subsides on its own within 2 hours without medications.
On 28th April 2022, her rashes with itching suddenly increased, and she took a tablet of Levocet 5 mg. As per the case need, medicines were revised.
Her last follow-up was taken on November 26, 2022, where the patient had no severe episodes of urticaria, itching, or redness that significantly improved; she did not take any conventional medication, and she said she was cured.
Conclusion
The homeopathic approach aims to stimulate the body’s self-healing mechanisms, reduce inflammation, alleviate discomfort, and prevent future flareups. Over time, the patient experienced significant improvement in both the frequency and severity of the symptoms, demonstrating the effectiveness of homeopathic care in managing chronic urticaria.
