Patient Identification Number (PIN): 26745 Country: United States First Diagnosis: October 2019 Age at Diagnosis: 7 years Case Summary A 7-year-old boy from the United States first developed symptoms of Nephrotic Syndrome in July 2019. He was formally diagnosed in October 2019, after which he was started on prednisolone on 14th October 2019. By 18th October 2019, his urine dipstick test showed no protein traces, and the steroid course continued until 8th January 2020, during which he became symptom-free. The child experienced his first relapse on 8th July 2020. Steroids (prednisolone) were reintroduced on 16th July 2020 for approximately seven weeks. Around this period, he had swelling around the eyes, feet, ankles, hands, and abdomen. In July 2020, his parents opted to begin online Homeopathic treatment under Dr. Shah. Associated Concerns Increased appetite and weight gain due to steroids Night-time hunger and request for milk Easy fatigue related to steroid-induced weight gain Frequent colds and coughs Hypertension diagnosed in January 2020, managed with Amlodipine oral suspension (2.5 ml daily) Mild spectrum Autism, under behavioral and speech therapy Personal Profile Diet largely vegetarian, with increased appetite during steroid treatment Thirst and perspiration normal Less tolerant to heat than cold Family Structure Mother: Homemaker Father: IT professional Psychological Traits The child was cheerful, mischievous, and energetic. Family Medical History Mother: Hyperthyroidism Paternal grandmother: Hypothyroidism Maternal grandmother: Diabetes & Rheumatoid arthritis Follow-Ups 22nd November 2020 No relapse reported On both steroids (tapering) and homeopathic medicines February 2021 Last relapse was in September 2020 Child doing well Steroids stopped in September 2020 2021–2022 Throughout the following year, parents consistently reported no relapse Health remained stable June 2022 Parents confirmed no episodes of Nephrotic Syndrome for nearly two years Last relapse remained September 2020 Homeopathic treatment continued as a maintenance approach because Nephrotic Syndrome is an autoimmune condition prone to relapses The child has remained stable and symptom-free since then. Conclusion This case highlights how the child’s parents chose homeopathic care as an adjunct to conventional treatment and subsequently reported sustained stability in their child’s Nephrotic Syndrome. Over time, the child remained relapse-free, steroid therapy was discontinued, and his condition stayed under control. While conventional management remains essential for Nephrotic Syndrome, this case reflects how some families explore complementary approaches like homeopathy under medical supervision. Ongoing monitoring and responsible tapering of steroids under the guidance of healthcare professionals were crucial components of this child’s long-term stability.

In October 2019, a child from the United States, who was 7 years old, was first diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome. His parents decided to get Homeopathic treatment online from Dr. Shah in July 2020. His Patient Identification Number was 26745.

July 2019 marked the beginning of the symptoms of his Nephrotic syndrome. He received his first diagnosis in October 2019 and began taking prednisolone, a steroid on October 14, 2019. The dip test of his urine on October 18, 2019, revealed no protein (normal) traces. The whole course of steroids was run till 8th January 2020.

He healed and no longer had any symptoms. He had his first relapse of Nephrotic Syndrome on July 8, 2020. Prednisolone, a steroid, was administered once more on July 16, 2020, approximately for seven weeks. His face (around the eyes), ankles, feet, hands, and stomach first developed a lot of swelling between July 2019 and October 2019.

His appetite had increased significantly for his age as a result of taking steroids. Most of the time, he felt hungry and asked for milk at night. He quickly began to feel tired as a result of the weight gain resulting due to the steroid treatment.

He frequently gets a cold or a cough. He was diagnosed with hypertension in January 2020 and, since then, he was on Amlodipine oral suspension of 2.5 ml daily.

He has been likewise also diagnosed with the mild spectrum of Autism for which he is undergoing behavior therapy along with speech therapy.

Personal Details:

Because of the steroids, he had a greater appetite and consumed various foods, particularly vegetarian ones. His thirst was typical. His perspiration was average. He was less sensitive to the cold than that to the heat.

Family Set-Up:

His mother was a homemaker, and his father was an IT industry professional.

Psychological Make-Up:

The patient was mischievous and happy like a child who always seems excited. To express his rage, he would yell, throw tantrums, pester his mother, and repeatedly request to be picked up. When he is denied something, he would be impatient and argue.

Family’s Medical History:

His mother was a known case of Hyperthyroidism, and his paternal grandmother suffered from Hypothyroidism. The patient’s maternal grandmother suffered from diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis.

Follow-Ups:
First followup

In his initial follow-up dated 22nd November 2020, he didn't experience a relapse. He was on both steroid treatment and Homeopathic treatment.

Second followup

In February 2021, the patient’s parents revealed that the last Nephrotic disorder relapse he had was in September 2020. His health was normal, and he was doing well. His steroid dose was stopped in September 2020.

The following year, his parents reportedly confirmed that he was healthy and no relapse of Nephrotic syndrome had ever occurred.

Third followup

In June 2022, parents reported that the Homeopathic treatment had not caused any episodes of Nephrotic syndrome in the two years. He had his last relapse in September 2020.

Though he didn't have major symptoms, the Homeopathic treatment was continued for 2 years since Nephrotic syndrome is an autoimmune condition and has a chance of relapse. His case was kept under observation and maintaining doses were given.

He is completely free from his Nephrotic syndrome now.

Conclusion:

This case illustrates that homeopathy can promote recovery from nephrotic syndrome in children incredibly and safely without any side effects. The child could overcome difficult autoimmune conditions like Nephrotic syndrome with the help of homeopathic treatment administered at the appropriate time. Also, homeopathy helps in getting rid of the dependency on steroids.
