Long-Term Remission in an 8-Year-Old with Nephrotic Syndrome Through Homeopathic Treatment
An 8-year-old boy from West Bengal, diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome in December 2016, suffered recurrent relapses whenever steroids were tapered. His episodes presented with eyelid swelling, proteinuria (4+/3+), high BP, and frequent colds. Concerned about steroid-related weight gain and temporary relief, his parents opted for Dr. Shah’s online homeopathic treatment in May 2017. Within months, the boy experienced no relapses, his urine protein consistently remained nil or trace, and steroids were gradually stopped. Over nine months of treatment, he maintained long-term remission, showed improved immunity, normalization of appetite, and gradual weight reduction. This case demonstrates the effectiveness of timely homeopathic intervention in achieving sustainable recovery.

Case History
An 8-years-old boy, Mast. S. S. (PIN 32153) from West Bengal started with online treatment protocol on 15th May 2017 under Dr. Shah. He was suffering from nephrotic syndrome since December 2016. He had the first episode of a nephrotic syndrome in December 2016 with high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels, and since then, he was on steroids for the same. In April 2017, when his steroids were stopped for a few days, there was the relapse of the condition immediately so again the steroids were started. His episode would start with a mild swelling around the upper eyelids and bubbles in urine. And, every time his BP would get high around 130/90 mm Hg. Initially, there was a loss of appetite but, due to a regular use of steroids, his appetite had increased and he had started gaining weight. Before the episode, he would suffer from cold, cough, and throat infection. His parents would do dipstick urine test regularly. During the episodes, the urine reports would indicate 4+/3+ urine proteins. Within a few days of starting the steroid course, the urine protein would come to negative or trace. The BP was managed by giving anti-hypertensive. His parents realized that steroids were helping temporarily and so they were quite worried about the weight which their child was gaining due to the steroids. Through their online research, they found Dr. Shah's website and they decided to start with homeopathic treatment.
There was no history of any major illness in the child’s past and in the family. His paternal grandfather was a COPD patient.
There were no complaints with regards to his thirst, bowels, or sleep. He was sensitive to the cold weather. He would perspire more than usual.
He was studying in 3rd standard. His father was a salaried employee. His mother was a homemaker. He had no siblings.
The case details, which were sent to us by his parents through the online portal, were studied by Dr. Shah and the reports were thoroughly evaluated. He was prescribed Kali Carbonicum 30c along with Dr. Shah’s research-based medicines for two months.
First followup
After two months of the treatment on 12th July 2017, the parents reported that no relapse had occurred since starting the homeopathic medicines but along with homeopathic medicines their child was on steroids too. So, the parents were not sure which medicines were helping him. Parents were counseled and asked to consult the local doctor to taper the dose of steroids as he was doing well.
Second followup
On 7th September 2017, the parents reported no relapse had occurred since the last 4 months. His urine protein was nil. Also, the dose of steroids had been tapered.
Third followup
With the next 2 months of regular medicines, the parents reported on 6th November 2017 that no relapse had occurred since the last 6 months. Also, the steroids of the child were stopped completely. The parents had been regularly checking the urine proteins, which were consistently showing the negative result.
In between, whenever he had cold and throat infection, the urine protein would show trace but once the episode of cold would be settled again the urine protein used to turn negative. His frequency of cold, cough, and throat infection was also drastically reduced, and there was no need to give any conventional medicines for treating his cold and cough.
Fourth followup
On 1st January 2018, the patient’s parents reported that he is 90% better. There was no relapse in the last nine months. His urine dipstick result varies from trace to nil most often. The cold had shown a complete recovery. He was advised to continue medicines for a few more months as a maintaining dose to prevent the relapse of the condition.
Since the start of homeopathic treatment, there was no relapse in his condition. He had been in a long-term remission. His appetite had become normal. Also, the weight, which he had gained due to steroids, had started to reduce slowly.
Conclusion:
This case highlights the parents’ awareness about the temporary relief with steroids and opting for homeopathic treatment on time helped the child to heal holistically and not only just symptomatically. Homeopathy is quite effective in treating nephrotic syndrome successfully and safely without any side-effects.
