Overcoming the Struggles of Lichen Planus Pigmentosus in a Teenager

A 14-year-old teenager Mr.S.A.M; (Patient ID:47234) from the small town of Haveli Taluka, stepped into the Life Force Homeopathy clinic in Pune with a story of struggle that had taken a toll on his young life. With great concern and anxiety, his parents visited Pune Clinic in January 2022 for the treatment of Lichen Planus Pigmentosus (LPP); the journey of his condition began in 2020 when he was just 12 years old. The hyperpigmented patches started insidiously, with faint dark spots first appearing on his face. Over time, these spots started becoming more obvious and spreading slowly across his skin. Within four to five months, they spread across his hands and legs. The patches varied in size, gradually spreading and darkening over the past 2-3 years.
The patient belonged to a family where his father was an auto-rickshaw driver and his mother was a Home-maker; the patient was their only son; so parents were extremely concerned; being from a working-class family was finding it difficult to understand the young teenage state of mind and his sensitivity towards his hyper-pigmented spots. As a teenager patient was facing criticism; laughter and a constant bombardment of questions as to why these spots were developing and how weird is he looking due to isolated hyper-pigmented spots on his face. He experienced constant stares and comments from his classmates. The patient’s parents even tried conventional medications and the application of creams which he took from July 2020 till October 2020 which failed to help the patient and his hyper-pigmented spots kept on increasing. Eventually, this young boy was feeling sad and upset about his appearance, became self-conscious started living in his shell with no friends, and started socially isolating himself from his friends. The hyper-pigmented spots greatly affected the child’s confidence. The family tried to reassure him but noted his growing withdrawal. The parents were keen to restore his skin appearance as well as his confidence.
His general health was otherwise okay with no significant past illnesses. The parents reported no history of LPP or related skin conditions.

Finally, after a rigorous course of treatment, all the hyper-pigmented spots faded completely and a teenager who was isolating himself socially; happily became a people person again.
