A 28-year-old male patient from Juhu (Patient ID: 39840) presented with psoriasis and visited our Santacruz clinic on 8th April 2019. His complaints began one and a half years ago. His eruptions were severe and progressive. He had psoriatic patches on the back, chest, legs, and scalp. He had intense itching, because of which he complained of bleeding as well after scratching. He experienced burning after scratching. His conventional treatment has been ongoing for the past five months. The medications included Tab. Methotrexate 5 mg, taken twice a week; levocetirizine was prescribed daily for symptomatic relief of itching, and Elocon (mometasone furoate) ointment. Despite this treatment, symptoms persisted without significant improvement. Also, multivitamins were taken daily to support overall health.

Past History: History of kidney stone before 2 years.

Physical Genu8erals

His appetite was average; he craved non-veg food and sweets and disliked vegetables. He was a chain smoker and smoked at least 10 cigarettes per day. His thirst was average; he drank around 2 liters/day. His sleep was disturbed due to itching. His sweat was mostly on his palms. The patient had no bowel or urinary complaints. Thermally he was chilly.

Mental Symptoms

The patient was mild, gentle, sober, and shy but at times got irritated and was having grief about his financial issues; he was financially pretty unstable and had been suffering from a money crisis for the last 15 years. The patient always wanted to support his family, but because of the financial crisis, he felt he was not enough to take care of them.

Personal Details

The patient was working in BMM as an assistant director in the Amol Gupte production house. His father was working as a constructor on site, his mother was a housewife, and he has 2 brothers, one 18 years and the other 17 years.

After a thorough evaluation of his case, Dr. Shah prescribed the medicines. The necessary instructions were given about the diet to be followed, and a few blood tests were advised to rule out some possibilities. Also, counselling was done to stop smoking since smoking can hinder psoriasis recovery by affecting the immune system, triggering inflammation, impairing skin healing, and reducing the effectiveness of the treatment.

He was also advised to follow some stress management practices like meditation or yoga.

Follow-Ups

By the first follow-up, dated 27 May 2019, the patient was better by 15%: the scaling, inflammation, and itching were reduced, and also there were no new eruptions.

In his second follow-up, which was done on 15 July 2019, he was 70% better. All complaints were significantly reduced, itching was better, scaling improved, and eruptions were getting better.

By the third follow-up on 21 August 2019, where patient symptoms got triggered, scaling was slightly increased, probably because of a change in weather. As per the case, the medicines were revised.

After the consequent follow-up on 16 June 2020, eruptions got stable, and the patient was much better than before, maintaining the stability; no major relapse was seen.

Since he was better, so patient stopped the treatment for a few months, but in October 2021 he saw a relapse of eruptions because of winter weather, so it was advised to restart the treatment. He had a few new eruptions over the scalp, back, and chest, along with some hyperpigmented patches.

He continued taking treatment, and by June 2022 he was 50% better.

In subsequent follow-ups, the patient was better by 65-70%, eruptions were stable, dryness and scaling were much better, and only itching was present occasionally due to changes in weather.

After a few more weeks, there was significant stability; he was much better, so he stopped the treatment.

Conclusion

This case demonstrates that with consistent treatment, homeopathy offers hope for a more sustainable and natural recovery from psoriasis.
