Trigeminal neuralgia is a chronic pain condition that affects the trigeminal nerve, which carries sensation from our face to the brain. Symptoms ranged from mild to severe facial pain which would often get triggered by chewing, speaking, or brushing the teeth.

In many cases, the cause of trigeminal neuralgia is never found. However, known causes include:

  • swollen blood vessel or tumor that puts pressure on the nerve
  • multiple sclerosis

Triggering factors include brushing teeth, shaving, touching the face, eating, drinking, speaking, putting on make-up, exposure to breeze on the face, and other such facial movements.

Fortunately, you have homeopathy to treat the condition effectively and safely without any side effects. Here’s a trigeminal neuralgia case that was treated remarkably with homeopathy.

Case Study

A 45-year-old female patient (PIN: 48627) visited Life Force Homeopathy’s Jayanagar branch on 9th July 2022 for the treatment of her complaints of Trigeminal Neuralgia which she was suffering from since 2008. She had a severe electric shock-like pain radiating from her left jaw to the throat. She also had a burning sensation on the left side of her lips. The burning sensation was more while eating, lying on the left side, talking, and doing similar movements. The pain would last for a few seconds but it was unbearable for her. Only the left side of her face was affected and she used to suffer from the unbearable pain 5-6 times daily.

Her history of ailments was asked about and updated.  Her family history was also enquired and updated. Her past medicine as well as current medicine prescription was also updated for future reference.

A detailed case history was noted by considering both her mental and physical symptoms.

Physical Generals:

The patient had a poor appetite and was a non-vegetarian. She had no special cravings. Her thirst was an average, and she drank around 2-3 liters of water daily. She had an average perspiration and couldn’t tolerate extreme cold climates. Her motion was regular, and she had no urinary symptoms associated. The patient was suffering from disturbed sleep and preferred lying on the right side. Her weight and BP were checked and updated.

Psychological Generals:

Her mental symptoms were also asked about and updated. The patient had a happy childhood and a well-supportive family. She was a mild and gentle lady with a reserved nature. But, recently, due to her health condition, the patient was getting irritated easily and, at times, she used to show her anger to her family members. She had great anxiety about her health, particularly about her trigeminal neuralgia condition. Her intellectual sphere was also considered. Her memory, intelligence, perception, and logic all were good.

At Life Force:

Dr. Shah went through the entire case in detail and prescribed her medicine according to the symptom totality.

Follow-ups:

At the first follow-up on 16th September 2022, the patient’s relief from the sharp electric-shock-like shooting pain was better after starting our treatment. However, the burning sensation was persisting.

At the second follow-up on 27th November 2022, there was no significant change in her condition. The patient was still dependent on painkillers.

In her coming follow-ups, she was showing gradual improvement in her relief.

By 29th June 2023, the patient was better by 90%. Her pain was negligible and the frequency was drastically reduced.

The patient was very happy that she could taper the dosage of allopathic medicines and finally stop it. She was very grateful to Dr. Shah for treating her condition and improving her relief.

Conclusion:

Homeopathy works extremely well in most cases of Trigeminal Neuralgia. This case highlights that homeopathy helps in controlling the underlying process of nerve damage and also helps in enhancing the pain threshold. Homeopathy is safe and non-toxic and does not interfere with other medicines. Homeopathy helps to reduce the dose of conventional medicines for Trigeminal neuralgia once the improvement sets in.
