Successful Homeopathic Management of Nephrotic Syndrome in a 7-Year-Old Child
Patient Profile: Name: Master M. (PIN: 15687) Age: 7 years Date of First Visit: 23rd March 2011 Diagnosis: Nephrotic Syndrome (diagnosed February 2011) Medical History & Presentation: The child presented with generalized edema (swelling) and frequent urination. He suffered from recurrent colds every month and had a reduced appetite. Urine analysis revealed proteinuria of 3+ with a total urine protein of 1846 mg/dl. There was a significant genetic predisposition, as the father also had Nephrotic Syndrome and had undergone a renal transplant. Conventional Treatment History: Master M. had been on corticosteroids (Wysolone 10 mg daily) for one month before visiting the clinic. Homeopathic Management: A detailed case history was taken, considering all his health issues. Based on this, Dr. Shah prescribed individualized, research-based homeopathic medicines and advised necessary dietary modifications. Treatment Progress: 5th July 2011: 40% improvement observed. Edema reduced significantly. Steroid dose reduced to 10 mg on alternate days. Appetite improved. July 2012: No swelling; urine protein levels normalized with occasional mild fluctuations. Steroid dose further reduced to 5 mg daily. Recurrent colds decreased. August 2014: Steroids completely discontinued; patient continued only on homeopathic medications. August 2015: Patient had been off steroids for one year with no relapses; appetite normalized. April 2016: Patient asymptomatic; urine protein nil. Homeopathic medicines continued for relapse prevention. September 2016: Experienced two minor episodes of cold in the last 4 months; otherwise healthy. Urine protein remained nil. Outcome: Master M. achieved complete remission of Nephrotic Syndrome under homeopathic care. He remained free from steroid dependency and experienced no significant relapses. Conclusion: This case demonstrates that individualized homeopathic treatment can effectively and safely manage Nephrotic Syndrome in children, minimizing or eliminating the need for corticosteroids while preventing relapses and promoting overall health.

Case history
A 7-years-old child, Master M. (PIN: 15687) visited our clinic with his parents on 23rd March 2011. The child was diagnosed with Nephrotic syndrome in February 2011. The child presented with the complaints of edema (swelling) all over the body and frequent urination. He used to suffer from severe and recurrent colds every month as well as a reduced appetite. His urine protein level was found to be 3+ with total urine protein at 1846 mg/dl.
He was taking conventional treatment from the last 1 month which included corticosteroids (Wysolone 10 mg daily). There was a strong genetic link as his father also suffered from Nephrotic syndrome. His father had a renal transplant due to the same.
A detailed case history involving all his health issues were taken. The entire case history was then studied by Dr. Shah and, based on the same, research-based homeopathic medicines were prescribed to him. The necessary dietary changes were advised to the patient.
First followup
By 5th July 2011, his condition was better by 40%. The swelling over his body had reduced considerably. His steroid doses were reduced and brought to Wysolone 10 mg on alternate days, unlike daily as earlier. The homeopathic medications helped him to reduce the steroid dose and his dependency on steroids. His appetite also started improving.
Second followup
By July 2012, the patient had no swelling. The protein levels in urine were brought to normal, but, sometimes, a mild fluctuation was still being experienced in the same. His steroids were further reduced to 5 mg daily. The episodes of recurrent colds had reduced.
The patient’s doses of steroids were completely stopped from August 2014. The patient was completely on homeopathic medications only.
Third followup
By August 2015, the child was without steroids from 1 year and was doing well. His appetite was normal. No relapse was experienced by him in the last 8 months.
Fourth followup
During the follow-up in April 2016, the patient was asymptomatic with no complaints. His urine protein level was Nil when urine test was done in March 2016. Medications were still continued by him to prevent any further relapse.
Fifth followup
In September 2016, the child complained of two acute episodes of cold that occurred in the last 4 months, however, other than that the patient was fine. The urine protein test which was repeated in September 2016 also showed Nil urine protein.
Conclusion:
This case highlights that homeopathy is highly effective in treating Nephrotic Syndrome in kids successfully and safely without any side-effects. Also, homeopathy helps minimize and stop the dependency on steroids effectively.
