Mrs. J.B., a 42-year-old female, visited Life Force Homeopathy, Thane branch, Patient identification number (Patient ID: 56030), in November 2024, presenting with a 4-month history of severe constipation, characterized by hard stools and requiring straining for evacuation. She had been using suppositories every alternate day for the past 3 months with limited relief. Associated symptoms included increased abdominal bloating, dull hypogastric pain, and a feeling of incomplete evacuation. Her appetite decreased. This event was identified as a trigger for the onset of her current constipation, as she was on laxatives post-surgery.

Constitutional Symptoms: Beyond her bowel complaints, Mrs. J.B. reported significant lethargy, feeling unrefreshed in the morning, increased sensitivity to cold, hoarseness of voice, and weakened memory. She experienced a lack of desire to work and felt depressed.

Medical History: Underactive Thyroid: Diagnosed in February 2024 and managed with Tab Thyronorm 25 mcg once daily for the past 8 months. She had a history of thyroid supplementation during a previous pregnancy, which was subsequently stopped. Hysterectomy: Underwent hysterectomy in February 2024.

Past Medical History: Uterine fibroids and endometriosis. Investigations:

Thyroid Function Tests (29/10/2024): T3: 0.97 ng/mL, T4: 6.75 µg/dL, TSH: 3.95 µIU/mL     Anti-Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies (Anti-TPO) (05/11/2024): 71.90 H U/mL (Elevated, indicating autoimmune thyroiditis).

The Life Force  Homeopathic treatment aimed to address both the physical symptoms of constipation and the underlying energetic imbalance contributing to the underactive thyroid and associated systemic complaints. The choice of homeopathic remedy done by Dr. Rajesh Shah was based on the totality of symptoms, including physical, mental, and emotional aspects. Lifestyle changes, blood investigation, and diet were suggested

Follow-up and Progress:

First Follow-up (07/12/2024 - Approximately 1.5 months into treatment): Significant improvement in mood fluctuations; she was feeling fresh in the morning, and her appetite increased. The patient had stopped taking Tab Thyronorm 25 mcg 1 tab OD 25 days prior to this follow-up, reporting feeling sluggish while on it.

Second Follow-up (01/01/2025)—Approximately 2.5 months into treatment: Continued feeling fresh in the morning, mood fluctuations were less pronounced, and constipation was now occasional. She had stopped taking Tab Thyronorm 25 mcg 1 tab OD for 2 months by this time.

Third Follow-up (29/03/2025 - Approximately 5 months into treatment): Overall Improvement: The patient reported 80% overall improvement. Constipation and appetite have significantly improved. She had stopped taking Tab Thyronorm 4 months ago. Her thyroid tests were repeated, which showed the following: 03 Jan 2025: TSH: 5.760 µIU/mL (Slight increase compared to previous), T3: 0.85 ng/mL, T4: 6.20 µg/dL

Although there is a slight elevation in TSH, no thyroid supplementation was advised at this stage. Mild fluctuations in thyroid hormone levels can occur, and since the patient is clinically much better, she was continued on homeopathic treatment alone. As per the case requirement, the homeopathic prescription was revised during this follow-up. In general practice, thyroid hormone replacement is not usually considered unless TSH levels are persistently above 10 µIU/mL. In cases where TSH is below 10 and the patient is symptomatically better, we aim to stimulate the thyroid gland naturally with homeopathy to restore its own hormonal function rather than suppressing it with external supplementation.

Conclusion: This case study illustrates the potential efficacy of homeopathic treatment in addressing chronic constipation associated with an underactive thyroid. Despite stopping conventional thyroid medication, homeopathic remedies played a great role in restoring the body''s inherent healing capacity and managing the symptoms of underactive thyroid.
