A small girl, S.S. (Patient ID: 52727), visited the Chembur clinic of Life Force Homeopathy on 7th October 2023. She was suffering from a hypopigmented patch on her cheek, diagnosed as segmental vitiligo by a dermatologist.Vitiligo is a chronic autoimmune skin condition where patches of skin lose pigment melanin, resulting in white or light-colored spots. Segmental vitiligo is a type of vitiligo that affects only one side of the body or a specific area, not typically crossing the midline.
She had only one oblong-shaped patch on her right cheek. She had used Ointment Tacrolimus (an immunosuppressive) prescribed by the dermatologist for 8–10 days. She came to know about Life Force while her father was searching for safe and gentle treatment options for her vitiligo.
She was a cute little girl who had recently become an elder sister to a 13-month-old brother. Having been used to exclusive attention from her mother before, the stress of the divided attention after her brother's birth and the sudden shift in focus created emotional stress and a sense of insecurity in a small girl. She expressed her discomfort to her mother; however, her mother believed that it was normal for the older sibling to feel that way for a while and that everything would be resolved later. She had no idea, however, that it would have such negative effects and cause her to develop vitiligo.
Emotional stress, especially when experienced at a tender age, can deeply affect a child's developing immune system. In some sensitive individuals, such unexpressed or unresolved emotional stress may act as a trigger for autoimmune responses, potentially contributing to the onset of conditions like vitiligo. A detailed case history was taken, which helped us understand her and her disease in a better way and thus helped her get rid of it.
Physical Generals
She was a very fussy eater, with more liking for junk food like pizza, burgers, and Maggi, and had an aversion to healthy food like fruits, vegetables, and homemade food, because of which she was underweight and not gaining weight for a long time, and her mother was very worried about her.
She is very shy and introverted by nature, not very talkative even at home. She is good at studies and extracurricular activities.
A history of diabetes and hypertension runs in the family, where both her grandparents had it.Her father worked as a technician in MSEB, and her mother is a homemaker.
During the case taking, the parents were explained the strategy we would be planning for their daughter's treatment, and the importance of a balanced diet in the recovery of the disease and in building her overall health was also emphasised. Her parents promised to take the necessary steps to improve her diet. She was also advised to undergo some blood tests to rule out vitamin deficiencies or check for any hormonal imbalances.
A thorough examination was done. Her hypopigmented patch was examined under a Wood's lamp, and her weight and height were noted down.
Dr. Shah met the patient with her parents and prescribed Carcinosinum 200 after evaluation of the case.
Follow-Ups
The 1st follow-up was done in November 2023
The patch on her cheek had started changing its color from a milky white patch towards a dull color with no spread noted, and they had stopped the Tacrolimus ointment since the last consultation.
2nd follow-up done in January 2024
The repigmentation was noted in the hypopigmented patch with no spread, and no new vitiligo spots were seen.
3rd follow-up done in March 2024
The patch had almost healed, with a slight hypopigmented area seen.
The next follow-up was done in June 2024
Her Vitiligo patch showed complete re-pigmentation.
After which, they continued the treatment till September 2024, just to ensure complete recovery, and to prevent relapse, the maintenance doses were given. Dr. Shah asked them to discontinue the treatment later.
Conclusion
